hello
i have been doing a lot of reading and i have decided to consider these two scopes. it will be going on a savage flcp-k .308. I deer hunt and target shoot some.Iwould like to have optics that would allow me to shot longer ranges. I live in western kentucky so there are not alot of wide open spaces but there are a few. I am pretty set of the magnification range of 3-15. I wonder about the difference in the 42 vs 50 objective. The redicles are very different . I thank any one for your replies |

The SS is a very good scope. I have one mounted on my 7-08. The only scope in the price range I have compared it to is the Vortex PST. The SS has better glass to my eye, and the owner of the PST. He liked the controls of the PST better, I liked the SS's better. ( He is a MOA guy) I have looked through a Weaver once at a Match, but it was about 7 months before I got the 3-15 SS. From what I recall, I would say they very similar. The Weaver will have a slightly larger exit pupil, due to its 50mm objective, but I will not say it has better low light capability since I haven't had them side by side.
All the scopes mentioned have decent glass in that none of them will keep you from finding a target in good lighting conditions. I have not done any comparisons in dawn or dusk conditions. I have had my SS out at these times, but it was target shooting. Not looking for game.

If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

I have both of these scopes and like both. I have been planning to do a side by side comparison from a user's perspective of optical quality but the summer got crowded so I will get to it now that the grand kids will be back in school and hope to get comments posted in the next couple weeks. What I can say now is that I would buy either one again, the SS has the size, weight and price advantage while the Weaver has a lighted reticle option, locking turrets and side focus that is smoother for me to adjust. Both offer a lot for the money.
