I just received an email from Chris at SWFA.  They will have a version with turret caps, but will ship later than the regular version.

Good news to me; I'd much rather have caps. I don't fiddle with the adjustments on 1-4x optics after zeroing.

The thumb knob is in the works too for the first version.

It should be one hell of a great scope for an AR platform.

I think i just got a little wood ... the ONLY other thing I can think of that would make this "perfect" ... Put some thick thread quick screw off knob covers.

Any chance the Magnification Adjustment Ring can get a thumb knob for quick adjustment?  I realize this late in the development its probably a no go.  Gotta ask though.

I do think that would be a nice addition.  Short of that I'd put on one of these:  http://www.3gunstuff.com/what.htm for fast power changes.  I'm sure they'll start making them for the 1-4 SS shortly after it comes out.

Julio, this is the reticle that will be in the released version.  The other reticle, the donut reticle might follow in a latr version, but the version out shortly will be the mil reticle.

So Jeff whats up with the 3rd or 7th Reticle from the bottom?  The Donut You mention must be somewhat like some of the Acog style reticles? Personally for what Im asking out of my AR 6.8, a SS 1x4 with Simple Illuminated Donut would be excellent.....

The reticle is FFP, which seems to be throwing you.  At 1X, there are thick, black non-illuminating bars at 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock.  When you zoom in, the thick black bars are no longer visible, just the smaller, hollow bars at 3, 6, and 9, and those are illuminated.

All Jon's pics with the mil scale are of the same reticle, just different zoom settings and illuminated or not.

Make more sense?

And yes, the donut is similar to some Acog reticles and a few others (similar to but better than the Millett DMS reticle.)  It would be a good fit on the 6.8, but the mil reticle will too.

The purpose of the original donut-ish reticle was to provide bullet drop compensation and to providing ranging references.

Finally, in Jon's series under "New reticle", they are as follows (all the new reticle):

1X, no illumination
1X with illumination
4X no illumination
4X with illumination

Thanks Jeff!

Yes that makes more sense, the FFP concept is still pretty new to me. Im still not really used to my SS 3x9, although I like it alot and would buy another, Heavy Duty. Im looking forward to some of the newer SS scopes coming in the future

The only thing I am not sure about are the turrets without covers on a close combat style optic...

Today is July 15.

I almost purchased a Leatherwood CMR tonight, but found this thread during a last-minute search.

So how much longer until these are out?

I'm itching to get a 1-4X for an AR carbine now!

If it's a week or two, I think I can wait.

If it's months away, I'll go Leatherwood.

Get the Trijicon Accupoint if you cannot wait.  I just got mine today and man is it a nice scope.  Glass is fantastically clear.
