I was in Israel last week and heard about this on the news.  Here is a link to the article:

also

In the news, however, it said that both Swedish and Norwegian dockworker unions were doing this.  I did not see a whole lot of references to that when I searched, although there are a few snippets out there, some of them very bizarre:

I have a long standing policy of keeping track of which country or company boycotts Israeli products and, in turn, boycott their products.

Here, I am a little unsure of what to do: the Swedes are trying a temporary boycott, and even then, it is only the dockworkers.

Either way, it got me to thinking, what do I use that is made in Sweden (or Norway for that matter)?

It turned out, that not much at all:
  • Norma brass
  • Alliant powder
  • Aimpoint red dot sights
  • ??????? I sure as hell do not buy IKEA furniture (any more).  Do they make anything else there?  an I can't think of anything I use that is made in Norway
So, technically speaking, both of those countries are fairly useless to me from a commercial standpoint.
On top of that, they managed to award the Nobel Piece prize in recent years to such luminaries as Yasser Arafat, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore and Barack Obama.

ILya

Quite a bit of the steels used in everyday products, especially knives, is made by Sandvik, which is a Swedish corporation.

Boycotts are tricky because many who work in the various manufacturing plants of the target country disagree with the positions of others in that country or company who hold objectionable views or engage in objectionable activities.  Conversely, there are always going to be unsavory idiots working for favorable manufacturers in friendly countries as well.   Some companies or countries are easy for me to boycott because they overtly express philosophies and support causes I strongly oppose.  But, if I boycotted all products that contain parts content originating from countries that in one way or another I strongly disagree with, I suspect I wouldn't buy much of anything, since precious few products are made entirely in the US or one of our close ally countries anymore.

The major who just left here is married to a Swede.  He buys into all their garbage.  Can't say I wasn't glad to see him go.  A "pacifist" in the US Army just biding his time until he retires... looking for that lifetime income so he can move to Sweden.  SUCKS...

The Noble Peace prize means absolutely nothing anymore.

I want to give MAJOR KUDOS to Elton John for not backing down from pro-Palistinian pressure to boycott a concert given in Israel.  Others did.
