Hey everyone, I finally registered, but I have viewed these forums for some time now. I am in a position to pull the trigger so to speak on this scope choice.
To start the rifle and platform this will be being married to is a Sako Finnlight in .308 Win.
I think both Swarovski and Kahles produce premium products however, the big dilema is "is the extra bucks for the Swaro really worth it?" Now bear with me I do not have a budget here, however if the difference is slim at best I'd rather not throw money away.
To Narrow the selection I will considering the Kahles 3-9x42mm KX with a 4A reticle.
And from Swarovski I will be Considering 1.7-10x42mm Z6 with a 4A reticle as well.
I feel the 30mm tube on the Swaro is superior to the 1" Tube on the Kahles. However if this really does not impair performance I can most definatly overlook it.
My main question being is the glass better on one than the other, and is one going to give me a much greater night capability than the other as well.
For mounts I havent decided, But I really would like to consider a set of low or medium "opti-locks" from Sako... Unless I can be advised of better here?

The KX is out of its league against Z6, but it is 1/2 to 1/3 the price, in my opinion not a very fair comparison.

I did not see a nice selection of C's available here at SWFA, I guess I would consider a C if I could buy one I wanted... Like 1-6X42 or 3-9X42, I already ordered the rifle today and a set of 30mm rings so it sorta ruled out the KX by default. |

I tested a Swarovski Z6 1.7-10X42 and a Kahles KX 3.5-10X50 last year. I am curious as to what you intend to do with the rifle?

the kahles C is top notch - but the new swaro's are supposed to be excellent too.
kx is no slouch either. especially for the price.

I plan on using it for whitetail hunting, and generic shooting purposes out too 600m. Figured down the road I could probley use it for a host of other medium game and closer prairy dog shots in the future. Probley will do some coyote hunting with it as well..

as far as mounts go for the finnlite ive owned the model 75 & 85 and the optilock mounts are way to high even if you get the lows, ive switched to the leupold Quick detach in lows and they are perfect for up to 42mm and they even make a super low.

Amen, brother!
Another vote for the Kahles C, especially at the SL prices mentioned. Edited by RifleDude - April/04/2008 at 06:37 |

Just Bought Kahles Helia C with the 4A reticle, they said the glass was minty and it just had minor wear on the turrets... and for slighty more than 700 Bucks I think it was kinda a steal... |

If money is no issue then buy the Z6. Kahles CL is a great scope for the money, you can find them for $1000 or less if you don't want to spend that kind of money on a Z6.

you made the right choice salo, you would be hard pressed to find any difference optically between the Z6 and Kahles C. I love my Kahles scopes, at the price you got yours, it is a steal. Enjoy.
