Is the new z3 line the same as the old Habicht line? Is the new z3 line made here in the USA or still in Austria? Thank You

From what I understand, the Z3 is the old AV line and was/is assembled in the US. The Habicht line, i believe, was the PF/PV/PH line and had a 30 mm tube. They were replaced by the Z6 line.

New Z3 = previous generation AV series. The "Habicht" (which means "hawk" in Austrian, and is also the name of a mountain near the Swaro mfg facility in Austria) designation was a general name used on all Swarovski scopes at one time or another prior to the introduction of the "Z" (Z3, Z5, Z6) series scopes, so that name doesn't refer to any specific scope.
I have 2 AV scopes, a 3-9X36 and a 3-10X42. Both of my scopes say "Made in Austria" on them. In their catalogs prior to the introduction of the "Z" scopes they stated that ALL of their riflescopes were made in their facility in Tyrol, Austria. However, assembly of at least some, if not all of the 1" tube scopes were transitioned over to the US sometime prior to the "Z" name change, to lower production costs. I can't confirm when or which scopes are affected; optics companies are notorious for being tight-lipped on this info. |
