I have decided to spend the money and try the best.  Im torn between the 3-9x36 or the 3-10x42.  Then theres the Plex vs. 4A reticle.  The Plex seems to draw my eyes to the crosshairs and I would think its easier to see in low light but I havent had a chance to look through either, just on the SWFA website.  If I end up going with the 3-10x42 can I get away with Low Talley Lightweights or will I need mediums with Butler flip ups? Its going on a Savage 114 American Classic. Hard enough talking myself into money for Swaro....now its the little details that are killing me.

I have 1 of the 3-9's and two 3-10's, they are both great scopes, all sit on model 70's in talley lwt lows., I suppose you might be able to mount the 3-9 a little lower if need be, so far optically I see little difference between the two scopes so I would go with what mag range best that suits the rifles caliber and use.

I would suggest the 4a reticle.  I like it a lot better than any of my plex reticles.  Just my 0.02...

I have both and, as already said, they are great scopes. My "36" has the #4 and my "42" has the TDS reticle. For visibility, I'd go with the #4. For longer ranges, the TDS holdover style reticle works great.
Either should work with Talley lows.

+1, I have a 3-10x42 A/V and it is far and away my nicest scope. You won't regret the purchase!

Im on the other side of the coin I like tactical knobs to dial in correction for long range, and I still like a fixed power 6x42   scope and you could have one of each for the price of the Swarovski. As for drawing the eye nothing draws the eye like a Trijicon Accupoint with a tritium fiber optic reticle. But Im all about what works.
