I have a chance to pick up an older PV 2.5-10x42 30mm scope at a really good price and was wondering how they compare to the new Z3, Z5 and Z6 scopes.

Does the Z3 have the erector springs ?
What are the differences between the models apart from magnification range ?

I have a Z3 and Z6 along with several PH/PF scopes.  The PH series is an etched, first plane reticle.  My Z3 and Z6 are second plane reticles.  The eye relief on the PH is around 3.15 inches while the Z3 is 3.5 and Z6 is 3.75.  Optically, they are all great.  The PH is better than my Z3 and I would say pretty damn close (for my eyes) to the Z6.

The PH series has a spring loaded eyepiece so if you were to get the "scope bite" from a rifle, it takes a bit off.

All in all, it' recommend one if you can get it for a good price...  If you don't want it, drop me a line as to it's location.

This is a PV2.5-10x42L with #7A reticle. Are they the same as the PH ?

PV and PH = same thing.

Z3 doesn't have the coil spring erector support; it has conventional leaf springs.  The Z3 series are 3:1 zoom 1" tube scopes.

PH/ PV are 4:1 zoom 30mm tube scopes, with coil springs.

Z5 series are 5:1 zoom 1" tube scopes, I believe also with coil springs.

Z6 series are 6:1 zoom 30mm tube scopes with the coil springs.

All have the same glass and coatings technology, but the Z6 has a more advanced optical design, theoretically providing a touch better image quality and the higher magnification Z6 scopes have ED/HD lens elements.  The most recent generation of Z6 scopes also have "SwaroClean," Swarovski's version of hydrophobic outer lens coatings.

All are great scopes.

I will just mention that i have tested my z3's leaf spring erector system and can say that it is both accurate and holds zero.

The more I use that scope, the more I like it.
