Hello all,
I came across this forum while doing some research on binoculars. I figured this would be the best place to ask a few questions. I am going to be purchasing a pair of binoculars soon and have narrowed my choices down to the Swarovski El and the Nikon Premier LXL. I will be using them primarily for hunting. I am trying to decide between the Swarovski 10x42 EL (I prefer it over the Nikon 10x) and the Nikon 8x42 Premier LXL (I prefer it over the Swarovski 8.5x). I love everything about the Nikon, but wonder if I may be making a mistake by not going with a 10x for hunting. Any and all comments or advice you can offter would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Swaro EL's for ergonomically superior and "were" lighter than the Venturer's. Nikon LX (I had these) optically. By a hair. Better resolution, to my eyes.
BOTH are outstanding binos.
Be advised! Swaro EL's "had" an issue with nitrogen purges there when they came out. Bad seals or a seal related issue. That was a few years ago when several people were complaining, so maybe they got it resolved.
I would probably go Leica's now though. The BN's that I fooled with had the optics and the ergonomics both going for them. BN's may be obsolete now, so take that into consideration.
I like 8x binos these days. I'm a little shaky!!
Best of luck!! You are definately on the right track, friend.

Unless I hunted in the woods exclusevly, I'd go with a 10x, provided you can hold em steady. An 8x will provide you with a larger field of view and they keep you from constantly refocusing at close ranges, but the 10x will provide you with more detail/resolving power during low-light conditions.

I like the Victory II's better.
But, the Victory is a good bino. Not in the El's or Nikon LX's league...IMO. |

You like the Victory II better than what, the FL? Maybe it's because
it's late, but I'm having a hard time understanding your response. You
say you like the Victory's, but then say the EL's and LX's are in a different league (better).....I don't get it???????

Buster:
My bad.
I thought David's reference was to the first Victory series, not the Victory II or the FL series.
I saw a pair of "FL"s when they first came out and they were called Victory II's, or so I thought. Or maybe the FL's are an upgrade to the Victory II's? I'm not sure now.
The Victory I's were kind of a dog in many peoples eyes. Pun intended.
Thanks for the correction. Edited by cheaptrick |

The FL's are Zeiss' most recent and best quality binos. I haven't had a
chance to check them out in person, but a lot of people rate them the
very best available. I personally think Zeiss made a marketing mistake
by tying them in at all with the Victory name because it confuses
people. The original Victory series were not up to usual Zeiss quality,
but Zeiss rectified most of the problems with the introduction of
Victory II's, but IMHO, it was too late and the damage was already done
to the name.

Well, I'm a big Zeiss guy at heart and have zero problems believing that the FL's or Vic II's or whatever are amongst the finest optics in the world, friend.
I stand corrected on my earlier post to David.
Good stuff!! Thanks. |
