Has anyone had any hunting experience with the Swarovski AV 4 X12 X 50 with TDS plex?

I am interested on information as to how the TDS plex performs in low light and in long distance shooting.

Is the TDS reticle clearly visable in low light situations?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

I don't own one but I've heard guys speak about it.

Yes the TDS system is a good system but a little complicated. As I understand it, you have to crank the power all the way up to 12 to view the TDS recticle. Anything less than 12 I've been told you can't see the markers underneath.

As for low light performance, yes it has good low light capability as do all Swarovski scopes.

I myself was thinking of purchasing a Zeiss 4.5-14x50 with the Rapid Z recticle. Same set up as the Swaro TDS with just a little more magnification.

wasn't very impressed with the old swaro line-- and yes the tds gets smaller in the kahles 3x9 which pays royalites to use\  but---   used the z6 in 1.7x10 and it didn't -- and was amazed in the TDS this scope is the sleeper mid range tactical scope if there is one. the low power with TDS in low light and fast target aquistion is equal to the best low power dots (EOtech, etc), or fine illuminated cross hairs. not your questions specifically but the 10 does as well as any hold over reticle.

I have a Swaro PVS but chose the light plex ret rather than the TDS.  At the end of the day most people using this type of scope range the target then dial the distance on the turrets.  I use this scope a lot a night and get on fairly well with it, the reticule is visable in all but the very worst light.  I do appreciate that your scope does not have this facility therefore TDS may be a better option for extended range shots.

I have compared it with a Nightforce 5.5x22x56 at night,  the nightforce is very slightly superior but only due to its illuminated reticule.  Both are easily outperformed by my little Ziess Diavari C 3X9X36 which is a remarkable scope in ALL conditions. As this Ziess is almost 20 years old I would expect the current Ziess offerings to easily outperform both Swaro and Nightforce.  I am looking myself for a new scope for a custom project and the Ziess rapid Z look s to me the way to go but I cannot see that they are yet available over here in GB.

In short I would try to look through your shortlist in the conditions that you want to mainly use it in before deciding but put Ziess on your shortlist.

at the time of the z6 i compared it to a new diavari, my old diavari, a vx7 -- the new swaro pretty much beat them all, I was blown away. (except for the turrets).
