Well, I decided to sell the Leupold and replace it with a Super Sniper SS20X42. I've been reading the rave reviews about how this scope is built far better than its prices suggests, and I have to now agree. This scope just plain rocks!

My buddy and I took our rifles to the range today to get the Super Sniper zeroed and to compare the optics to his Bushnell Elite 6500. We both agreed that the Super Sniper could discern more detail on the targets than the Leupold. The SS20X42 could clearly make out lettering that the Bushnell showed as illegible blurs.

After firing 5 bore sighting and zeroing shots, I went on to fire the only group of the day... We both had to get back to family events for the holidays. Below is the 100-yard 5 shot group that measured an awesome 0.256 MOA.

For daylight target work the 20x42 is a great choice. In low light or at night the 6x42 is a great choice. The 10x seems to be almost everyones favorite or it was until the 3-9 came out and the 10x HD both of which are amazing scopes. The soon to be released variable scopes one a 1-4 and the other possiblly a 5-20 or similar power range will be welcome additions to the line.
Have Fun once you try one of the Super Snipers you will want all of them.

20X at 100 yards: it almost isn't fair.

Stretch it out to 500+ for real fun.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the good words guys.

Chris,

I would have an extremely hard time selling this rig. I have several rifles, and this one is by FAR the most accurate rifle I have ever had my hands on. I can only say that it is more accurate than it deserves to be.

Thanks for entering me in the Photo Contest... I had no idea that there was a contest.

If I made light of your shooting skills by asking if you want to sell your rig, I apologize as it was not intended.  I meant it in humor as I know there would be no way you would sell something that you work so well with.

I bet you will be a finalist in the photo contest as I know the person that selects them.  Wink

Chris,

No offense taken.

I obviously did not catch the humor at first, and actually felt a bit panicky. I had never even considered it, and you made me do some soul searching for a few minutes. Wink

Yeah, how come you don't want that rig anymore?  Big Smile

Just joking man, that's a nice rig, and a really nice shot group.

Color me happy!

I decided to hit the range today to finish zeroing my rig, and to check the accuracy of the SS20X42's tracking. I was uber happy to see that the tracking was every bit as accurate as the reports have claimed.

This is the result of the only tracking target for the day. It shows a slight pull to the right, which was my fault. I then clicked 3.25 MOA up and 3.25 MOA right and hit the .25 MOA square, while still aiming at the center. I then tracked to the bottom of the page while aiming at the center and hit within 1/4 MOA of the lower right square. I continued tacking to the other dots on the target, and if combined they would be less than a .75 MOA group. This is not my tightest group by a long shot, but it shows the very precise tracking of this awesome scope.

Kudos to SWFA for bringing this kind of super value to the market.

I headed to the range today with a half box of Federal Gold Medal Match King ammunition and the desire to discover something about my rifle and scope combination. I just had to do another box test to discover just how accurate the tracking can be with the Super Sniper SS20X42 scope. Knowing that my rifle is capable of sub-quarter MOA performance, I wanted to see if that could be translated through the tracking capabilities of the scope. What I discovered is that both factors in this precision/accuracy equation are perfectly matched!

The box test below shows a MOA based target with five 1/4 MOA squares. My point of aim was always the center square, and if all of the impacts were merged they would measure .541 MOA. For tracking, the scopes MOA turrets, which exactly match the 1/4 MOA scale target, were turned 13 clicks on the for elevation and 13 clicks for windage, and back to zero between shots.

If perfect and repeatable tracking is what you are looking for in a scope, then look no further than the Super Sniper line of tactical scopes.

Not bad.

For more fun, shoot a 5-shot group at each corner and back in the center, spinning the turrets between each shot.  It takes time, but yields even more confidence.

The weather finally broke here in Northern Indiana, so I took advantage of it after work today. I headed to the range to with the goal of finally testing the precision of my 700P, which just received a new bedding job, and of course the awesome SS20x42 scope. The results were nothing short of spectacular! I only had time for a single 5-shot group before heading home for dinner, but the result was a personal best! My previous best 5-shot group at 100 yards was a cluster that measured .230 MOA... This masterpiece was a minuscule 0.182 MOA!!!

To say the least, I am very pleased with both my rifle and scope. For just a little more than a grand, I have a rig that shoots as well of better than many custom rigs that cost many time more. Now I just need to find a range that will let this rig stretch its legs.

Color me happy!
