I recently bought an AR50 and have been researching the SS scopes. My problem is which power scope I need, 16x42 or 20x42. Im going to be shooting mostly under 1000yrds, probably 250 to 800. I've always heard bigger is better, but I've read some posts saying to go with the 16x42 because of mirrage. Im not shure which would suit me better. I've never shot at these distances. Any information would help. THANKS, JC

If not exceeding 800 even a 10x is adaquate. Of course more magnification enlarges sight picture, but also increases mirage, and decreases the exit pupil, letting less light in the scope.

Get the 10X, it'll be brighter with less mirage and more flexibility in shooting from 250 and out.

Hey guys, Thanks for responding. So out to about 800yrds 10x should be ok? If I did go with 10x42 is their any diffrence in the rear focus($319.00) and side focus($419.00) models besides the $100 price. Is one easier or better than the other. Thanks again, JC

I've heard good things about the SS scopes but will they really hold up to repeated .50 bmg blows?

Hogdog, parallax on the side requires more stuff inside, that's the only real difference; both work well.  Adjusting parallax with a side-mounted turret is a pain if you ever shoot lefty, but it is doable.

BigJimFish, the SS really can stand up to .50 recoil, buy with confidence.

Please just send it to Dale or Rancid they can make better use out of it at 2000 to 2500 meters.
Issue #1 50BMG rounds have extereme penetration therefore most ranges will not allow use of this cartridge.  They present risk far beyond what one would expect.
Issue#2  One should not start long range target shooting with a 50BMG what you need is a .308 or a 30-06 nothing heavier they will do the 800 yds just fine and be less costly and more user friendly.  50 BMG is for shooting truck engines.
Issue#3 The Super Sniper scopes are one of the most dependable rugged scopes that have ever been made and are in current military use.
