I just recieved my new Super Sniper rifle scope; rear focus model.  I was surprised to find a Tasco warranty card, Tasco booklet and 2002 copyright info.  I thought the Super Snipers had recieved upgrades recently?  Is SWFA selling old stock from 2002?

Old stock, new stock, who cares?Just mount it up and shoot,if the scope performs to your liking,Wala!. If not I'm sure that SWFA will take care of you.Remember this though,if the scope does not perform because you do not know how to use it then all bets are off.

Yep - that scares a lot of people, but there is no such thing as old stock as far as the scopes go, now as far as the literature on how it works there is some old paper, but heigh most of that old paper gets thrown away anyway so why print new paper and run the price up.  The scope will be just fine.

I had the same experience as you did when I got my Tasco Super Sniper (side focus).  The warranty card was dated 2002 and the operator's manual was dated 1995.  Make no mistake, this is a Tasco scope.  It came in a plain white box with a SWFA decal and a Super Sniper decal on top of the box.  Only on one side of the box did it say "Tasco" and in very small print.  Tasco is owned by Weaver and Weaver is owned by Simmons.  Note there are no brand markings on the scope or external serial number.  If there is a serial number it may be stamped somewhere inside of the scope.  When I went to the website listed on the warranty card to register my scope, that site was shut down.  I am not knocking SWFA, but you got what I got.  Basically a $300.00 scope.  Nothing less and nothing more.

A couple of comments:

Tasco is owned by Bushnell and warranty work is done by Bushnell, to the best of my knowledge.  SWFA owns all rights to the Super Sniper scopes and they have a contract with Bushnell regarding the repair work.  Optically and mechanically, this scope is an awesome deal, especially since the glass went through a redesign a couple of years ago.  In case you are wondering, Super Sniper scopes are made in Japan by a Hoya subsidiary, the name of which escapes me right now.

As a side note, Weaver is not owned by Simmons.  Weaver, Simmons, and Redfield brands are currently owned by Meade Optics.

ILya

Edit: Super Sniper is made by Kenko, a subsidiary of Hoya.

Astro8   Does your scope work? Can you see the target clearly? Are the adjustments repeatable?  Since I will assume that the answer is yes to all of those questions  it is a good value at $300.

Astro8, your comments are erroneous.

Uri My scope works fine.  I can see the target clearly and the adjustments are repeatable.  The S&B is very close to the model I want, but I prefer the Illuminated Gen 2 XL Reticle, cm turrets, and a Single-turn Elevation Knob.  Note I was not "wining", but simply stating a fact.  I do agree it is a good value.  By the way, I don't buy my Tactical Optics, or any optics, at Walmart.  I know SWFA has the exclusive rights to this particular model.  Here's a thought.  How about if X.O.T.I.C. came back from the dead and made the SS series?

Koshkin, I stand corrected.  Meade Optics does own Weaver.  Also Kenko is the manufacturer of the SS series.  I spotted a very tiny gold sticker on the bottom of my SS10X42M that has Kenko (in English) printed on it.  I can plainly see that you folks with the title optics master know your stuff.  Know anything about X.O.T.I.C.?

I was equally concerned as I had the same experience when I received my scope.  SWFA answered my questions and they are in the process of updating the manual etc....Bushnell does the warranty work and KENKO is the builder for SWFA.  BTW Bushnell owns tasco, so It is all in the "'family".

It's a great scope and LEAPS and BOUNDS better than the NcStar I removed to put this on.

my thoughts on the matter are this, simple - i don't care who made it, where it was made, or when .... it's a sharp, piece of clear glass, with mechanics that function flawlessly ( so far ), and puts me on target consistantly... the best part, it cost $300.00 . the reason i don't have 2 is again simple - i'm holding out for the variable .

any word on a release date yet ? are you guys still looking at sometime in OCT ?
