I was refered here by a member--thanks by the way.

I bought a SS scope from the group buy over at AR15 anybody remember that?

anyway this was my second SS

here is the problem. Last week I was rearranging my safe and had all my long guns out and lined up against the wall and on the last one I laid it up as well and hit the one before that.
It was An M1a with my Super Sniper 20x mounted on it.

It slid over and hit the carpeted floor and the left right knob broke off.
it looks like the threads are a bit messed up and of course the nitrogen is gone and there are black specs all over the glass inside.

there is not even a big mark on the knob from the fall.

SWFA said just to send it to the repair facility.

you think they will cover this under warranty.

I'm unsure. I will say though that for that to happen it must've hit in a near perfect way. I know of one that was run over by a pickup truck and it held up just fine. At any rate, you won't know until you try.

Chris stands behind his stuff.  Let us know how it goes.

And, as I tell my kids, there are only 2 ways to learn: experience and instruction.  With luck, I just learned by instruction what you learned by experience: thanx for taking one for the team!

That is a heavy gun but still it should have taken that abuse, many more SS scopes have been through much worse, like CYborg said, it must have hit just right.

We'll get you taken care of one way or another.  No worries.

I had to take a pic with my phone of the busted SS. I am at work and was just about to box it up to send.
It looks like the knob just popped out of the tube. there is some thread stress evident. it will screw back in but does'nt seem sturdy.

The other pic is of it mounted on my LRB, the day I finished the rifle.

No%20No   Odd ..... at first glance I would have thought the thing had been unscrewed and crossthreaded putting it back in . The threads arent broke off .... it ripped the threads off or twisted them without breaking them ... and it just popped out by hitting carpet ?

It really is rare thing. I can't begin to imagine what some of these scopes have been through while in service to our armed men and women. We never hear of such a thing as this.

You can tell al that from that blurry photo? Are you implying he broke the thing by fiddling with it and is now trying to get it fixed under warranty with a phony story? Sounds like a stretch why go through the trouble of coming over here and posting a photo? Especially after already sending it in and then having SWFA say they will fix it. Things break, even super sniper scopes once in-a-while.

I am a Moderator over at the M-14 Forum and while that does not put me above suspicion. I can only tell ya that I didn't unscrew it, and there is a difference between cross threads and pulled threads and I agree the phone pic will not show either.

when they see the knob and not even see a ding on the knob or marks from trying to unscrew it, I would thing they will just replace it.

I believe you are being truthful especially since you did post this over at the M14 Firing Line Forums first and you have a good reputation over there. Super Sniper scopes are definitely tough as nails but anything mass produced can be the 0.5% lemon or in maybe this case just happen to hit it on the one wrong spot for this particular scope.

I just think its funny people are so quick to suspect "foul play" (especially wth the funny emoticon    http://www.opticstalk.com/smileys/Whacko.gif , implying you are a wacko I thiink). I guess they watch too much CSI or something.

Donlipa, be mindful of things you may not have the time here to understand. Also what you think another member is implying is un-important and does not warrant a post in a negative context. We could have just simply chosen to post a rule violation. See rule # 6. http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=5473 We chose not to because we saw no ill intention here. There is no surprise that SWFA handled this with the class that we have all come to expect.

Not to worry friend. There are a number of people here that are here very frequently. I hope that you too will be one of us. There's a lot less chance of misunderstandings that way. Thank you for your understanding and apology, not that it was needed. I've not seen you do anything questionable, just wanted to point out something that you might not have noticed.

Cool, I actually referred ZOG over to this site from the M-14FL Forum when he posted about his SS problem. As you may know that's a pretty good forum and everyone is really polite, helpful and nice. Long story short I guess I got a bit defensive and should probably mind my own business better. Anywho glad ZOG got a little piece of mind from Chris on his scope repair.

and of course by "piece of mind" I meant to say "peace of mind" as in a positive outcome. Hmm...I swear I used to be able to edit posts here.
