I'm trying to decide on a scope for my short barreled 308. I use this rifle for targets mostly between 50 and 300 yards, i often shoot reduced loads and heavy projectile subsonic loads. Often my ammo's trajectory is not very flat, so i'm interested in getting a mildot or bdc reticle to help with dropoff.
I've been reading favourable reviews on the super sniper 10x42, but can't find how to have one shipped to me in Australia - any ideas??.
Are there other scopes similar to the SS 10x42? eg. bushnell 3200 tactical 10x40.
I recently read Barrett's review on the 3200 10x40 used on their .50 Barrett, this was published in barrett's tactical weapons 2006 annual. They gave it a pretty good wrap, especially for the money.
I"ve never had a fixed power scope at 10 x mag, how are they for the short range targets? Perhaps a variable scope with bdc reticle such as a Nikon Monarch would be just as sensible for me.
Any thoughts to point me in right direction would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

 The only real limitations to a high magnification scope is the relatively small field of view, and usually a shorter depth of field.  This can greatly slow target aquisition and hinder the tracking of a moving target.  In the gamefields this can cost trophies, on the battlefield it can cost lives. For punching paper it's not really a factor.  I should think either of those optics you are considering would serve you really well for that application, and many knowledgable folks on this board would recommend a 16X Super Sniper or something on that order.  Can't argue against a variable either, although it will generally be a bit harder on the wallet than a fixed- power of comparable quality.  Really can't help you with the shipping issues though. SWFA can, if you buy from them.

thanks for the replies.
SWFA have told me that they're unable to help me, they won't ship to me in Australia. Is anyone aware of another way that i could get hold of a 10X super sniper?
Many other retailers will ship to Australia (eg. the optic zone, midsouth shooter supply, competitor, etc), costs about $25 - 30 USD shipping.
The bushnell 3200 10x40 is cheap and easy to get, but I would prefer the SS.

I wonder if this is part of a sales territory agreeement of some kind. I can see having to charge higher shipping costs, but to not ship at all sounds like them missing out on some sales opportunities. There are a lot of riflemen Down Under... Would anyone from SWFA be able to explain this?  I'm really not trying to sound critical of SWFA on their fine forum but I'm sure there's a good explanation.

I just read a nice little review of both the SS 10x42 and the bushnell 3200 10x40. See http://www.longrangehunting.com/articles/low-priced.php  ;
