OK, I just got this scope, and while it looks nice on the rifle, I'm kinda put out that it didn't come with any instructions or any sort of manual whatsoever. Was this an error or do they just take it for granted that we all know how to set these things up and zero it properly?

So now that the scope is on the rifle, each turret has the numbers on the dials and some white markings at the base of the dials on the scope body itself. I'd sure like to know how to use those markings to correctly lock in the 100 yard zero that I've established. Can anyone throw a dog a bone and help me out?

See those little horizontal marks below the vertical marks on the top turret dial? What are those for and how do I use them?

I'm not familiar with the SS, but I'm certain that the horizontal marks to which you refer are used to keep track of the number of revolutions you have turned the turret; you will find that each full turn exposes one hash mark.

That's sort of what I was guessing, but where do I set it so that it's correct? For a 100 yard zero, what should it look like?

Nothing is more aggravating than spending good money on something and not even getting a simple instruction sheet with it.

Ok,  you know that twisting the turrets changes bullet impact.  You have your 100 yard zero, now use the tiny hex wrench that came with the scope to loosen the thre screws in the trret cap for windage and elevation.  Back them out of the cap about 2mm.  Lift the caap slightly, and rotate until the "O" on the cap aligns with the vertical ( horzontal on windage) mark on the elevation turret.  Press the cap back down into position, hold steady and tighten the set screws.  First pass is tighten until they just stop with almost no pressure.  Second pass is tighten to about 5-6 inch pounds; thats where you feel the wrench pushing into your finger.
Now you have your scope zeroed, turrets zeroed, and are ready to make any adjustment you like.
Each number mark on the turret is 1 full moa, each hash mark is 1/4 moa.  Each mark on the towers is 15moa and is used for referrence to return to zero setting.
For the mil math go to www.mildot.com.

SFWA figures that anyone buying a SuperSniper is a savy guy and doesn't need no stinking instructions Wink

Much appreciated, Mike. I had the caps off this morning and there sure are a lot of those 15MOA hash marks, especially on the vertical adjustment. My worry was that I'd set it up stupid and wind up running out of clicks when I started trying to dial it in for range, but I don't see that happening now that I know how many of those marks there are. But the zeros are set to the proper marks and I have the base zero for 100 yards now. I definitely appreciated watching this rifle and scope make consistent 3 and 4 shot groups that could be completely covered by a half dollar, but it's even better when you actually have an idea how to use the equipment properly.

Like I said before, I'm not a scope guy. These things still puzzle me.

Don't worry about it Dog Man. If you spend some time around here, it will come. Some of our members have a phenomenal amount of knowledge about optics, and firearms. (I'm not claiming to be one, but we all have to start somewhere) It appears Mike has you on the right track. Good luck and welcome to the Optics Talk.

Mike is right on, each number means 1 full MOA of adjustment.  Each short hash mark is 1/4 MOA.  Just like making change for a dollar with four quarters. (25, 50, 75, 1.00) You click the scope from the "0" mark to the "1" mark you just moved 1 MOA, which is four clicks.  I think what Mike was trying to say is that if you move the knob one full revolution from the "0" all the way around back to the "0" you've moved a full 15MOA.

Do yourself a favor and start the right way, meaning don't start thinking in how many clicks it will take you to move your point of impact, start thinking MOA.  Once you get your 100 yard zero don't think okay I need 8 clicks to be on at 200 yards, 8 clicks you'd equal 2MOA of movement.  Just rotate the knob until the vertical line of the tower is lined up with the "2" mark and there you go.  Will post a write up I've found later.  Hope this helps.
