Folks,

Using the below posted question from the Horus Vision web site, is the SS 10x42 TMOA or SMOA?  I use a 5.11 HRT watch with ballistic program and need to enter TMOA or SMOA.

Thanks

Question:    What is the difference between the (SMOA) Shooters Minute of Angle and (TMOA) True Minute of Angle?

Answer: SMOA subtends (covers) exactly 1 inch at exactly 100 yards.
TMOA subtends (covers) exactly 1 inch @ 95.5yards or 1.047 inches @ 100 yards.

There is an approximate 4.6% difference. An accuracy problem will occur if the scope you are using has the elevation and windage adjustment calibrated in TMOA and you are using a computer printout or range cards calibrated in SMOA. At ranges less than 400 yards you probably wouldn’t notice the difference in accuracy; however, at 1000 yards you would miss the target.

Note: For the rifleman using a Mil Dot scope, it is absolutely essential that you know if elevation and windage adjustments are calibrated in SMOA or TMOA.

the SS scopea are MOA.

There is no such animal as shooters moa, just piss poor engineering on the adjustment threads.

M
inute Of Angle is just that, ONE minute of angle at a given range which describes a defined unit of angular displacement over distance.

Nowhere in the engineering lexicon  is a shooter mentioned.

Thanks Mike.

When I asked this same question of the folks at Mueller about their TAC II, which I also have, they were very specific telling me that their TAC II is calibrated at TMOA, that is 1.047 inch at 100 yards.  The reply I got from SWFA was that the Super Sniper is a "true mil-dot".  I will have to assume that all reticles that are claimed to be "true mil-dots" are calibrated in TMOA.  As you can see from the Horus Vision post, beyond 400 yards will make a difference in POI if I am not feeding the program the correct info.  My 5.11 HRT Watch will display in TMOA, SMOA, or MILS, if I use it correctly.  The watch was designed in partnership with Horus Vision.  Maybe this problem only exists in their thoughts.  From what they say it is important to know whether a Mil-Dot scope is calibrated in TMOA or SMOA.  Maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Well, I'm not nearly as savvy as Mike, but I can tell you that just because a scope maker says that the scope is TMOA or SMOA, the real litmus test is in actually testing each scope individually.

My SS is damn near perfect so far!!

I have run a box test on this scope @ 100 yds and it is coming in near perfect.
