I am ready to buy a Super Sniper  I am looking at putting it on a AR15 24 inch heavy barrel, for Prairie dogs and target shooting. Then again the scope could find it's  way on a M1A  I was thinking  20X , but I have read the 20X is not as clear as the 10X.Is this true? What about the 16X?  Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks TeleMann.

TeleMann,

I have one of each on my personal weapons back home, a 10x, 16x, and a 20x. I am very pleased with the optical clarity of all. The 20x will certainly give you mirage issues, varying in intensity with ambient conditions. We use 10x on our M24s to engage man-sized targets out past 1000 meters. Yesterday, I was dialed down to about 7x on my 4x-14x optic on my Barrett just to be able to see a 600 meter target because of mirage effect. I would go with the 10x42 for the 2 applications you describe. I use my 20x on a heavy barrel AR to shoot golf balls at 200m. I hate golf.

Semper Fi!

I think the 10x is a good choice.

I have the 20X and I don't like it.
It is ok for the range, but I need a variable power to acquire the varmint.

Ken Marsh says of what to do with the cheap scope... give it to someone you don't like.

I say SELL it to someone  you don't like!

I had the 20x for about a year before I decided I would trade it on a different optic. I was rather hesitant to trade it but I needed to reduce the price of the other optic to a cost I could afford at that time. Since trading it I have regretted having done so many times. The 20x is not perfect for every application but it does some things very well and I would be very comfortable using a 20x to hunt prairie dogs. I currently have two of the 10x scopes and the 10x does appear brighter as the exit eye pupil - (amount of light that passes through) is larger.

Clark All I can say is if you dont like your 20x and want a variable use the trade in form on Sample List and trade it in on a scope that better suits your needs and quit your bitching.

Well I finally got this SS 10X  jewel! It has really impressed me.I put it on my AR-15 Varminter, 24 inch heavy barrel. It was a 15 minute task to tune it in at 100 yds on this rifle. I shot  standing soda pop can size targets at a 100 to 200 and liter size at  350 yards with no problem. Thanks to all of you for all your input. I think I will need one of these scopes for my 6.8SPC.
