the quality of their quality is actually pretty good.  This particular forum is run by their brand, so don't expect anyone to knock them here.   Instead, ask around on other firearms forums (you'll still find positive reviews.)

I've personally owned two SWFA SS models, and I'm waiting for 2 more to show up.  Never had a fixed 20x, although I'm waiting on a 5-20x.

20x might be a liitle too much magnification I owned one for 8 years, but now
Got a 12x SS. Both are/were used on a Winchester 70 in .308. But
Other than too much magnification I had no complaints .

I like alot of magnification.I like to see where my bullet hits on a target longrange,no need for a spotting scope.

QUALITY it is.

It is built.

It tracks.

It is has solid internals.

The exterior is robust.

However with all 20x optics you do not get the crisp clarity you do at 10x it is not comparable.

SWFA SS does just as good as anybody else it gets darker, gloomy,(g)rainy and the clouds start to roll in.

Try the 12x or 16x if you have to. You will not be able to resolve tiny holes at long distances (long is anything over 500 as per many).

I think long range should be anything at 1000 or further.

I am planning on trying the past 2 mile thing here shortly...

I run a 16X on a 300 win mag and think its plenty,  not to dark in lower light than full sun and still pleny of power to view hits.  20X will be a "duller" picture in anything other than full light.

Personally, I would not put a fixed 20X on a gun, because:

1.  I shoot in some hot environments, and mirage can be awful on a fixed 20X.
2.  In low light, they simply are not useable.
3.  FOV, though good for a 20X optic, is very, very restrictive.

I should specify that if the gun in question will be used exclusively in good weather, on a known distance range, and always in full sun, it might be OK; if not, I'd look elsewhere.

I've sent rounds down range at 1,000+ yards with a 10X scope and been happy with the results.  If your purpose is small groups at 1,000 yards, a 20X is a good tool; for anything less, I'd consider other options, like the 10X SS.

OS, I don't know of any government contracts with SS, but I do know they are in use in military and LE rolls.

While I love 20+ power more expensive/larger objective scopes, I prefer using the 16X fixed SS over the 20X at any range.
