Last night I was fortunate to win an 84M in .338 Federal at our NRA banquet.  A beautiful gun with a Walnut stock.  It weighs about 5.5 pounds, so I want the scope to be proportional to the rifle.

I am interested in your suggestions.  I would like to outfit it for a variety of uses with shots from 50 to 200 yards.  Budget is $500-600, but since I have little in the gun  I really want a first class outfit.

My other primay hunting guns are a .270 A-bolt and a McWhorter .338 Win Mag.

I appreciate any and all suggestions.

first of all congrats on one fine rifle.my first suggestion would add to your budget about $50 and go with kahles kx 3x9x42($658 at swta).this scope is light, compact, and very good glass and coatings ..superior optics at a bargain .

second suggestion would be ior IOR 2.5x10x42 which falls in the middle of your budget for around $550.any one of these and your have a first class rig.

Welcome to The OT, Camdog! you might prowl around for a 3-9x36 German Zeiss as it is a low slim scope that would compliment the Kimber's good looks.
An as new one just sold on ebay with rings for $485.00, certainly superior to a conquest.

I'm just here to learn so no advice from me.  Just offering congrats on a nice score.  Even if you get the kahles.  You'll be able to brag about your setup only costing you $700

That is the way I look at it as well.  I am finding some opportunities to pick up a NIB 3 X 9 42MM Kahles for around $500.  I am going to check out one this weekend and if I like it, then Kahles it is.

Thanks again for the feedback.

On a 338 Federal I would go with a Kahles 2-7 with a 4a reticle. It's even lighter than the 3-9's and 7x is plenty magnification for the 338 Federal IMO. The 4a is a great hunting reticle.

My 84M in 7-08 as a 3-10 Swaro on it:

It works well in 7-08 but I think the little 2-7 would be just as good on mine and better on a 338 fed..........................................DJ

Like the suggestion on the 2 X 7.  I checked the Kahles website and  like the 4A as well.   I am gettting some good ideas here and appreciate the help.   I am going to the NRA convention this weekend and plan on stopping by the Kahles booth to check the scopes.

Love the pics of the 84M above, a beautiful rig.
