I need to invest in some type of optical sight for my Camp.  Main targets are beer cans and pine cones, but if a zombie appears, it would be a pleasure to put him down.  50 yards or less is intended range.  Quick, but precise target acquisition.  Either no batteries or significant run time.  I don't get it out often, and don't wanna have to put batteries in every time I do.   Something I'm not having to constantly adjust to changing conditions desired.

I have zero experience with red dots, reflex sights, etc.  Or should I forget all this and go to a ghost ring/peep sight style?  I just can't see the rear blade of open sights anymore.

I'd prefer to keep cost to $250 or less, but could go higher (max $500???) if I'm really sold on some real life differences.

I ran a 9mm Marlin Camp rifle with a Aimpoint H-1 on it, and loved it. Super fast and accurate within 50 yards---I think this is the BEST optic for this rifle. I know it's at the top of your price range, so I would keep an eye out for used one or a sale.

Thanks for the leads.  The StrikeFire was on my short list, but wasn't sure I cold get anything worthwhile for $150.  I was looking at the trijicon too.  Aimpoint does seem to have the top tier of red dots covered.

If you are looking for truly long battery life, Aimpoint has got to be at the top of your list.  If memory serves me right, it will work best with a red dot sight that can use two rings, rather than a single ring common with modern red dot sights.
Hence one of the 9000SC models is probably a good bet, since it is well within your price range:

Personally, I think Aimpoint Micro would the best choice for your applicaiton, but it is a bit above your price range:

http://swfa.com/Aimpoint-Flip-Open-Lens-Covers-C888.aspx  similar - the aimpoint brand ones stay on better than butler creek caps - better quality.

Thx guys.  Pretty sure I'm gonna go with the Strikefire.  I just can't justify $500 in optics for what really is a $200 gun that sees 200 rounds per year if there's a good likliehood of being satisfied with $150.. Yeah...I know they fetch north of $600, but only because they were discontinued and are a bit more PC than classic black guns.  I've got other guns (better guns) that need accessorizing too.
