Okay. I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but I seem to have an issue with using my new scope. First off this is my first scope so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

Super Sniper variable mounted on a AR15.

I took it to the range for the first time today and I could see the mildots and the reticle until I put the reticle on target then it would get blurry and disappear while I could see the target clear as day.

I think it might of had something to do with shifting my focus from the reticle to the target but I tried for 10 min or so and gave unable to keep the reticle in sight. I tried to mess with the reticle focus knob but it didn't seem to help at all.

Any tips or tricks?

Your reticle is out of focus.  If you stare at the reticle with a clear backdrop (like clear blue sky), it will be fuzzy at first, but your eyes will compensate and the reticle will become clear.  That is NOT what you want.

When you go to the range and look through the scope (if the reticle is out of focus), your eyes can either compensate  to see the reticle clearly or can see the target clearly, but not both.  This means your reticle is out of focus.

To focus the reticle, first locate the reticle focus ring, it is on the ocular end of the scope.  Be advised, there is a locking ring, make sure to unlock the focus prior to attempting to spin it.

With the locking ring loosened and with the scope on 9X, look at a clear sky.  If the reticle is not in focus, look away for several seconds, spin the focus slightly, then look through it again.  (You cannot continuously look through the scope for reticle focus since your eyes will compensate for the out-of-focus reticle - leading to the problem you have now.)

Continue to look through the scope, look away and make a small focus correction, and look through the scope again.  Eventually, you will look through the scope at clear sky and the reticle will immediately be in focus and very clearly defined.  Once you reach that point, lock your focus with the locking ring and look at an object through the scope (if the scope is still mounted to the rifle, be aware that you should NEVER point a gun at something you do not intend to shoot.)

Once the reticle focus is set, you should not need to adjust the focus for any reason other than a change in your eye sight - which will require another re-focusing session.

If the reticle focus is correct, both reticle and target should be very clear and crisp.  DO NOTattempt to use the focus ring to make the target clearer.  With the reticle focused, reticle and target should both appear clear.

Here is a picture of what your reticle will look like when properly adjusted.

The picture isn't great, but notice how clear the target is and how clear the visible lines on the reticle are.  This is what a properly focused reticle should look like.

So if you have a scope with an AO, would you place the objective to the highest yardage setting?

To set the reticle focus?
Yes, Sir.

Excellent instructions, RC!

For the other question: set the parallax adjustment to infinity when focusing the reticle.
