Help!

I purchased a used rifle, which came with Redfield mounts installed (dove tail front, drift adjustable rear).

I want to install dual dovetail burris mounts and signature rings.

No problems with the fron mount, but the rear torx screw heads are stripped.

Any suggestions on how to remove them?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know.

Is it something you have the tools to handle, or will it be better taking it to a gunsmith?

I hate you have to deal with that.

there are two options, but if you are not very mechanical it would be better left to the experts. If you have the tools and feel confident here goes. Take a dremel tool with a very thin cutoff tool and put a slice or slot into the stripped head being very careful not to go to deep ,or you will hit into the receiver, then just turn the offender out with a good hard small screwdriver. The other option is a little more risky. Start by stripping the receiver and acquire a small ez-out that will go down into a hole that you will drill thru the center of the stripped bolt, if you drill the screw off center you risk messing up the threads. Then drill the offender all the way thru and tap the ez-out into the hole you made and turn the hollowed screw out. Good Luck!

First try the easyest.

Take the correct bit, and put it into the drillpress.

DONT turn the drillpress on, just force the bit down into the screw with the drillpress while the bit is chucked.

Unscrew by turning the chuck by hand.

Regards Technika

Good advice Technika and nen. If you don't have those tools get a gunsmith. We used to back out sheared 4.5 mm screws with a small prick punch. You have to be skilled to do this, too, or you will mar the finish on your gun. Also. protect the gun with leather or cardboard strips when chucking in the vise. You will want to do this for the dremel method. Make sure you use the smallest O.D. on the cut off wheel as possible, dress it down if you have to. Be very careful with the grinder as the grinder will want to pull once you start to cut. If you have a drill press and are not experienced with hand grinders, I think Technika's advice is the best because of no machine tool under power. Just make sure you are on center. This is very effective on screws with low torque. From the the inquiry you have, though, see a gunsmith. The cost should be marginal.
