I came across a scope the other day that I didn't recognize. The symbol on the side was a gold crosshair over a purpurlish bird.

I'll try and get some pics up.

Any idea on what company it belongs to?

Someone gave Leupold the bird, a purple one.  Remove the front flip up cap ring to find a gold ring.

Yes, there are several warnings about Chinese "Leupolds".  The Leupold web page has a warning about it.  It is mainly with the Mark IV (the expensive Leupolds).  You're better off the get the scope from SWFA....if not, it might be as real as pro wrestling

**Hope that was what you were asking**

That's a strange bird indeed there. It does favor a Leupold. It doesn't appear to be a Leupold though as the bird would be an L. Some obscure brand that was trying to infringe on a trademark would be my guess.

Apparently an optical company in China bought the trademark from the Chinese government for "Leupold".  It is my understanding that any Chinese company can buy a (any) "Chinese" trademark for as little as $15,000 US.  Leupold/Oregon is trting to sue and protect their trademark but is not having much luck, to date, from what I heard.  China, despite having signed the WTO Agreement, does not enforce the laws of international trade.

I worked on a Chinese plant build and start-up project for 5 years and saw violations of patents and trademarks routinely.  The PRC agrees to protect Intellectual Property but routinely does not do so.

Automate, emigrate or evaporate!  The plant that I consulted on was producing for China and some South Asia countries sales only.  All European and US product was made in Europe or the US with computer controlled vision inspection systems.

C'mon Oldtrader, you don't have to justify to us why you were participating in the outsourcing of AMERICAN jobs to a communist nation just to support your lifestyle in a manner that most of us could only dream of.  Treading on the sovereignty of the United States, giving our BEST technology and productivity to an enemy state, merely to support your own selfish, petty desires, causing the poverty of thousands, hundreds of thousands just to satisfy your own materialistic perversions.  We don't mind.
Dang... sounded self-righteous as heck, didn't it???

On a serious note... did you learn anything from the Chicom production processes that is of interest to US manufacturing? What is their method for quality improvement?

Actually, providing safe, efficacious medical products to people wherever they live is good policy.  Most Chinese that I met were not Communist Party running dogs, they were just people.  I did not care nearly as much for most Army or Party Officials that I met and yes, I was spied on much of the time that I was there.  BTW, the income from this venture went back to the US of A through Singapore and provided jobs here as well.

I did not see anything while I was there that impressed me with their technology, at that time.  I went into a very large hospital in Beijing which was their "showplace".  The medical technology employed there was not even close to our (USA) hospitals in any medium sized city.  We did not give them anything close to the proprietary technology which we used in our automated plants.
