This may or may not be a scope issue...

I experienced some strange groupings yesterday @ the range and I'm hoping somebody can explain to me what is going on.  I'm shooting:
--Browning A-Bolt in .260 Remington.  Barrel & action have been bedded, crown has been touched up & the trigger breaks @ 2lbs.;
--Zeiss Diavari 4x12 56mm;
--Warne two-piece picatinny base;
--Burris XTR 30mm medium rings;
--120gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips atop 40gr. RL-15, Remington unfired brass, Remington 9 1/2 primers, OAL 2.800" (worked up to the load; thought it was my "most accurate" from previous 3-shot ladder test)

Well, here's an explanation of my groupings that happened on three separate strings.  My first shot impacts pretty much at point-of-aim, second shot impacts approx. 2" high & 1" right, third shot within .25" of the first shot.  I'm shooting off Caldwell bags @ 100yds, waiting 5 minutes between shots.  Like I said, this happened on three different strings with my custom reloads.

For the life of my I can't understand why I'm throwing that second shot.  All the screws, from the stock, action, scope base & rings are tight.  The glass bedding was completed by a gunsmith about a month ago & he has a good reputation.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Have you shot the rifle AFTER the the gunsmith bedded it? Or is this the first time?

Are the stock screws "torqued" correctly, at the proper inch pounds?

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Is it doing this with other loads?

Where are shots 4 and 5 going (and 6 through10)  ?

Do you get 2 differant groups? Or one group with a flyer?  Do the groups "settle" after the gun get warm?

Sometimes at some ranges the targets could appear to be stable but they are not the ground has been softened up and slight wind gives play.

If the barrel does this when it is cold and not when it is warm it can be a sign of a straightened barrel.  You can try things like running a couple hundred patches with JB bore paste down the thing  to help "break in" the barrel.  You can play with it some more and change powers and bullets.

Thanks for the help guys.  It sounds like I need to take another trip to the range.  I've got some factory ammo that I'll try out (120gr. Ballistic Tip Federal Vital Shok).

This is my second trip to the range since it was bedded by the 'smith.  The first trip consisted of me firing about 20 rds. of the recommended RL-15 loads, trying to determine a "most accurate" load and pressure constraints.  The 40gr. loads were "most accurate" during the previous trip but I seem to remember having some thrown shots during that session as well.  I just attributed those to windy conditions that existed on that day but the wind wasn't near as bad this past trip (it wasn't calm, probably 5-10mph variable).
