Hey I have a Minox 62 ED with the 20-45X eye piece.  What are your thoughts on using straight power eyepieces?   When i get much past 30X it gets dark really fast if you know what I mean.  I understand the exit pupil and all that.  I am wondering if the straight power eye pieces would make much difference in light.  What are all your opinions....would it be worth the money?

Fixed power eyepieces are typically slightly sharper and have a wider field of view when compared to a zoom at similar power.  Brightness doesn't usually change much.

It would be worth it if you find yourself using the zoom at or around the fixed power anyway.  I find the versatility of zooms to be more useful.

I have owned an 80mm Bushnell Elite for a few years now.  The 20-60x eyepiece is great.  I have logged a lot of hours behind this scope and I have been very, very happy with its performance.
Then, a couple months ago, I acquired a 30x fixed eyepiece from Coyote95.  The difference is quite astounding.  I agree with BB that the view through the fixed mag eyepiece is both sharper and wider than the view through the zoom eyepiece at the same magnification, though I would not choose to qualify those qualities with the adjective "slightly."   I have found the difference to be quite significant - enough so that I have almost completely stopped using the zoom eyepiece altogether.
