I have a Tikka T3 300WSM. I know, it kicks. Long story short, I've tried the Nikon Monarch 3.5-10x50 and it's ok but I want a little more scope. I have Warne high rings on the rifle and the 50mm barely clears. I will be using it for Whitetails in NC mostly. Dusk and dawn and the rifle needs to perform whether in a bean field or in the woods. I know, 300 Mag for deer. But I wanted a rifle I could use if I go on a hunt for elk which I plan to do within the next year or so. But mostly on whitetails in the conditions above. I don't know if there is a perfect scope. I really don't care for an Adjustable Objective either.

I am not sure what you mean by "more scope" Are you looking for higher magnification, better light gathering or just plain better quality? As for higher magnification, I think 10X is about the limit for hunting. After that you start paying big time with limited field of view and visible shake becomes a problem. If you cannot get your buck on a 10x, you are out of shooting range. The bottom end of 3,5 is also max. for follow up work or close range shooting. So for hunting you have the best possible configuration. The next scope up is 6-14x50, which is just to much for hunting. You will allways be on the 10 setting and the 6 is to high for close up work. And do not get a adj.objective for hunting. There is no time when hunting to fiddle with parallax adj in the hunting enviroment. As for more light gathering you would have to go to a 56mm, but it is bulky. A better allround scope? How much $$$$ do you have??? I hunt in all conditions, all ranges from 10yds to 350yds with a Leupold3,5-10x40 on a 300H&H Sako. I have never wished I had "more scope" in 10 years of hunting. |

300 wsm for deer isnt a bad thing your going to see less meat loss with the stronger built bullet and the deer fold up like an accordian when you hit them with it. one thing to remember is that the more magnification you have the bigger the objective needs to be, more power means you need more light, i have always used a 3x9 for that reason. but i hunt in hardwoods some pine forest and thats all i need.

Yes there is a perfect scope. Its called Schmidt Bender. You will need to give a budget in order for the question to be answered.

What exactly do you mean by "I want a little more scope?" I wouldn't personally recommend more magnification on the high end, because you'd sacrifice low end magnification and field of view on the low end, which will be a detriment in close in woods shots. 10X is more than enough magnification on the high end for any kind of whitetail or elk hunting you will ever encounter. I also wouldn't personally recommend a larger objective, as you'd have to get even higher rings, not to mention the extra unnecessary bulk and expense, and a larger objective only provides a marginal advantage in low light at magnifications above about 10X. More isn't necessarily better. If better optics is what you mean by "more scope," then you'd need to specify how much you're willing to spend, which will have a direct effect on the advice given.
I would take a serious look at the Kahles KX series if you want a 1" tube scope. I've always been very impressed with Kahles' optical quality, and the new KX series is very competitively priced. |

Tikka T3 Lite Stainless Camo, 300 win mag Warne Medium QD rings Zeiss 4.5-14x44 (BDC from Kenton on the away) brake by vandenberg custom (and it works!)
I couldn't be happier!
The Zeiss works great for close shots or for long range. If you want a little more light, go with the 50 objective, but I can hunt in near dark with the 44.
THe rifle shoots one ragged hole at 200 yards. And it weights just over 7 pounds. |

I am going to put the Kahles KX 3-9x42mm or the 3.5-10x50mm on my Kimber Montana in 300WSM. I am leaning toward the 42mm in 4a. I want a great scope but not crazy dollars. I think that this Kahles line may be one of the best deals for quality versus cost from everything that I have seen. I have looked through both and have some Kahles binoculars and have been pleased. The 50mm comes with a ballistic reticle and that is the only reason that I am considering the 50mm as this scope in 42mm will be excellent in most all hunting situations.
