z5; victory; kahles;  1500$ around tops; used is fine. (or just wasting money)

rifle 7 mag;

mainly southern white tail (dusk and dawn best shooting hours)
(a few western hunts when I am finished paying tuition for my kids)

shoots under 500 yards

replacing a 2.5 x 10 x 50 bushnell 4200 (which is working fine)

Would like to stay at the 50mm obj or smaller.

48 year old eyes

opinions please!

Agreed, however the Bushnell would probably do the job quite well.
But who wouldn't want some of the best glass money can buy?
If your $$$ is sitting pretty, why not?
If I did it, the dog would have company in his house, most likely.

Not necessary to spend that much to upgrade.  Get a Zeiss Conquest 4.5x14x50 with the RapidZ 800.  Less than the ones you mentioned and an upgrade, IMO.

JVR,just went from a elite 6500 2.5-16x44 to a SwaroZ5 3.5-18 with BRX ret.worth every penny.The glass is better,in that it is cleaner,sharper with no noticable abberation.Friends at the range when looking threw the glass just said WOW.

I own 2 conquest and they fall a little short of the WOW in comparrison.Don't get me wrong I like the Bushy & conquest alot,but I think the Swaro is a better all around scope.

This is also through the eyes of a 63 year old,bi-focal old fart!Whatever you do, do not look through a Zeiss Victory with FL glass unless you are ready to spend $3500 [:}

i was really looking more at the z5 for 1200 or the victory for 1100 on the sample list.  do you think the pv is a good?  which is better between the z 5 or victory?

Kahles definitely has a step up in glass
but for low light, don't underestimate the reticle itself

A #4 definitely is better then a standard plex, even out of the same scope

I had two 3-10x50 Khales, one with a #4 and the other the plex
no contest that the #4 helped in low light

The swaro pv is a better scope than the above suggestions.  Same internals as a z6 and maybe glass in a smaller package and ffp.

went with a zeiss diavari 3x12x56 ilum.  did a quick look through that vs a big sky II i had laying around. there is a big difference in low light (full night with street light glow).  My 4200 and the zeiss are going to the deer stand in 2 weeks.  I will through out an opinion when I return.
