How does the Rallye compare to the nighthunter for low light conditions?

Looking for a resonable price bino for hunting. Low light visibility is a must for my selection. in the range of $300.00. i saw a few on the samplelist that i was looking at. Also looked at the nikon action bino. something in the 10x50 range.

In a binocular of the same model your low light visibility will decrease as your magnification increases. Example, 10x50 = bright, 8x50 = brighter, 7x50 = brighter still.

Nikon Action binoculars are NOT fogproof & waterproof.
Nikon Action Extreme ATB series IS waterproof & fogproof.

I am not familiar with the Rallye but the Nighthunter from Steiner is suppose to be their best binocular for low light hunting situations. There are plenty of Nighthunters to choose from if you go to the Samplelist.

Perhaps we will hear something from Roy Finn about the Steiner Rallye model.

I guess I've been volunteered to render an opinion here. I will say first off that I have never looked through the Rallye models, but having owned more than a half dozen Steiner bino's I can say that any of the 10 year warranty models are outclassed by their 30 year warranty models both optically and from a durability (and waterproofing) standpoint. As a general rule with Steiner porro models, the 10 year models have an approximate light transmission rating of 90-92%. The 30 year models run 95-97%. As important is the resolution in the higher grade bino's which is noticeable. I can say first hand that I owned a pair of 7x50 Military/Marines (20 years) and they were pretty darn bright. You will see far better and longer into hunting hours with these than any riflescope will allow you to. The Military/Marines are not fragile by any means, and I would probably look into one of those, perhaps from the samplelist. Like Bird Watcher stated, the 7x50 is the way to go for low light conditions and better image quality than say an equal quality model sporting a 30-32mm obective lens. If you look through a Rallye and a Nighthunter you won't have to stare to see the difference.

Checking the Samplelist there are two choices in your price range:Steiner 7x50 Rallye at $229.95 or #5110 Steiner 8x56 MGA at $299.95.
