Looking for a review/comparison of the Steiner Peregrine 8x42.  I use to own a pair about 7 years ago and I loved them (unfortunatley they sprouted legs).  I've been searching for bino's and after reading reviews on this site decided that Leupold 8x42 HD was the best bet for my budget.  Sportsmans warehouse was having a big sale this weekend so I went to look at some steiners.  All they had was the steiner Peregrine XP, which where really nice...until I picked up the same size Steiner Merlin's and they were 90% as good for half the price.  My question is has anyone compared these to to the regular Peregrine's?  If they are that sloe and right in the middle price wise then I may have found my glass.

I compared the Peregrines to my Meopta's when I bought them and did not think they were even close to the Meopta optically.  I thought the Leupold Golden Ring looked better than the Peregrines as did my dad.  I was not impressed with them at all.

Also check out Vortex Razor.  They are just about as good as or as good as depending on who you ask as the Meopta optically, for a little less money.  Both are great binos in my opinoin.

Those Meostar's must be something really great and I'm going to have to give a pair a look. I compared my Peregrine's to a Leica Trinovid and couldn't see all that much difference. I actually thought the Peregrine was better in very poor light.
