I purchased a pair of M22s on ebay a while ago and I've discovered two things about them. The objective distance ring (not sure of the technical/proper term for this) is broken and is held in only by friction. When it's removed you can see there's a bit of broken off green plastic under a screw, as well as a black plastic disk that's been forcefully removed from the binos.

The other issue is the + and - adjustments for each eye piece. My vision is quite good as I'm young and on another pair of Steiner military 7x50s I can see perfectly through both eye pieces when they're set to 0.

These however have to be set almost all the way up on the + scale before the picture becomes clear.

The laser filters and lenses appear to be in good condition. The rubber armor is a bit chewed up but not as bad as my other pair of Steiners.

Looks like you did in fact get a defective unit.  I'd call Steiner and see what they say about service.  I'd also contact Suddarth Optical and talk to them about service.  Sounds like those M22's need to see the doctor.

Thanks for the reply.

I've heard these binos have 30 year warranties, and this particular unit has 7 or so years left of that warranty.

I contacted Steiner and I'll report back when they reply.
