A little Steiner story for those interested.

In the early days of the German occupation of Chechslovakia did two Jews (Georg Vogel and the other name haveI forgotten)  that worked as optical constuctors at Srb & Stys (that nowadays is a part of Meopta) realize that it was likely not healthy to stay in the country.

Here is one Srb & Stys that is mounted and have been in Swedish Serivice.

They was good friends of the Swedish Consul and he arranged for a false order for a lot of biloculars to the Swedish Army. The two jews got a permission to travel to Sweden to arrange for the final proccedures and possible to arrange for assembly in Sweden.

Sweden did actually buy a number of binoculars, but as from what I have understood not nearly as many as they consul have told.

They did of course stay in sweden and got employed by NIFE

NIFE stand for nickel ferro and did originally only manufacture batteries but became a very good optical company.

The best of tthe two jews was Georg Vogel and he did a lot of very nice constructions for NIFE.

Here is a few of Georg Vogels Binoculars produced by Swedish NIFE. Likely is at least the 8x60 a Zeiss construction that Vogel used.

The production of optical products held very high standard and a lot of other optical items than military sights and bioculars was produced. During the fifties and early 60th Georg vogel worked on his last big construction, that was made a lot in plastic and cast in one piece.

IT was a 6x30 and the intention was that the swedish army should adopt it.

Unfortunately did they only produce 48 or 49 of this model before the decision was made to close the binocularproduction.

A few years later the construction was sold to Steiner and that is just what Steiner i producing today.

Georg Vogel worked for the rest of his life in Sweden and the older optical guys knows him and remembers him as very great in optics.

The NIFE company changed name and direction a cuople of times and was later sold to US based FLIR that is wery good at thermal imaging.
