Are there any problems using steel rings with aluminum bases? Or vice versa?

Not really, as long as they are both of decent quality and compatable style.
  You may see a slight deterioration of the surface finish over a few years of the two components where they contact each other, due to electrolytic/ galvanic corrosion, but it should be minor if it occurs at all.

Thanks Ronk. They are steel Millett rings and Weaver (Weaver brand) mounts.

Personally, I would stick with the same metal for the reasons above, especially if you will be shooting in an area where you will be exposed to some salty air.
