Since we're starting over, why don't we all just agree that the Leupold VX III is the best thing out there for less than $1K.

Negative.

My conscious won't allow me to agree with that statement.

Nope.  Not even the best thing in its price range.

If you were talking about customer service, I'd agree.  Leupold is the best in that regard, although Sightron has been very responsive with all my questions.

Some of the best marketing I've seen in this business certainly belongs to Leupold though.

My post was directed more towards the VXIII, than to Leupold overall.

The VXIII was Leupolds response to the Zeiss Conquest. They tried to play catch up and still couldn't deliver a better product...IMHO.

I also give Leupold high marks for CS, offering a ton of options, and setting the bar for the rest of the worlds optics makers.

Leupold is a very good optics company, but they do have to improve the quality of their glass and coatings to catch up with some of the other elite optics manufacturers. I like the new VX-III scopes but they do fall short of the Zeiss Conquest optically. I also give high marks to Leupold for customer service as well as the new Alumina accessories they have come out with this year. They are overpriced like most of their products, but they sure are innovative.

I've always been a fan of Leupolds. Used and abused them for years. Never had them fail me when I needed them. Never had them not do what I needed them to. I carried one into harms way and it withstood the ultimate test. The only other scope I will trust that much is my Unertl.

I don't have anything against other brands. Those are just the only two brands that I have really put through a lot of harsh enviroments.

Cheaptrick,

What happened to "send lawyers, guns, & money"?

Under 1k I think I'll stay with the Swarovski American 1". Knock $100 off the price of each scope leupold makes keep the marketing and customer service the same. Then I would consider Leupold the best scope for the money.

If you manage to pull that off with leupold, I'll be the first to order one from you.

It would be nice if Leupold lowered their prices to a more realistic price point, for what you get.
