I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in .44 Mag and want to put a scope on this pistol. What do you guys think is a nice selection for my white tail devastator!

Some on the other hand like the variables. If you also like closer viewing for paper punching precision, the Nikon Monarch 2.5-8x28 UCC, EER is a great choice (scout scope on my rifle).
All depends on what you want and your budget. A handgun scope from Burris, Bushnell, Nikon or Leupold would be my choice from one of those, though I am partial to either the Nikon or Leupold.

I have a Burris 1.5-4X26 on mine and it seems just right. Burris has a well deserved reputation for building handgun scopes that stand up to heavy recoil. My 2-7X32 has done fine after several thousand rounds of .454 Casull. I like the 1.5-4 better than the 2-7. Anything above 5X is pretty much useless. I used a 2x for a good while but found that I wanted a bit more mag pretty often.

I also like a 2x scope on a pistol, I'm partial to the leupold but, I think a nikon or burris would also be excellent.

Yeah, stay with low power. I have a 4x Swift on mine and the magnification is too much for me, so is the FOV.

OOppss! The FOV is minimal, is what I meant to say! The SBH is one heck of a pistol I have not hunted with mine yet, want to get a 2x scope first!

I have a 2x Leupold on my SRH. It works fine for deer hunting in the woods. It also is plenty for the 100 yd range.

Thanks for the input. I guess that I need to take a look at the Burris and Leupold pistol scopes, no larger than 4x magnification!

I use a Leupold 2x on a T/C 44mag and a Sightron 2x on a 30-30 T/C. Both are as much magnification as I am comfortable with and are fully adequate for the distances I am willing to use for handgun hunting. I have tried variables with more magnification and have trouble with the wobbles! I am growing very fond of the Aimpoint I put on my 44mag SBH and would recommend you consider a quality red dot in your search for a sighting device.

lots of guys on graybeardoutdoors's handgun hunting forum recommend the Bushnell Trophy 2-6
I have one on my SBH 44 and run it up for working on loads from a bench and down to 2-3 for actual hunting |

I've said this before, but I found my Burris 2X20 was unusable in low light. My brother had the same problem. Moving to a scope with a larger objective cured the problem. Sounds like none of you guys have run into that. I wonder what the deal is?

My Leo 2x probably isn't any better and it limits my shots. I like the 4x Leo better. My Burris 2-7 is the older straight tubed version and it isn't good in low light, either. |

The first time I missed a shot because of that I switched to the Burris 2-7X32. It cured the problem. I use the 1.5-4X26 on my .44 Mag. No problems with it either. I never turn the 2-7 above 5X.

Some 2x scopes ( my Sightron, for example) have a larger objective lens than the straight 20mm ones. Acccordingly, you can still use a 2x even if you find that an exit pupil of 10 is not enough.

I have a Bushnell variable on my Super Blackhawk and a Leupold 2X on my Super Redhawk. I like them both, the Variable stays on 2X it may as well be fixed that's why when I scoped my Redhawk it got a straight 2X.
The Leupold is probably a little brighter, it's also newer. Who knows, they both work just fine.
I have a few Burris and what I've found is that the price paid is very reflective of the quality of the glass, this is the case with most brands.
Best wishes.
