I was out testing my new rifle, another Rem 700-300wsm with a heavy 22Ē barrel this time. Now I donít have a scope ordered for this rifle yet so I took a SS10X42 off of my .338RUM for some testing.

I tried some Accubond 180gr @ 2998fps , Burger 175gr M-VLD@ 3010fps and some 200gr SMKs @ 2610fps . The SMKs shot the best at 100yds but with the Burgers I can hit the 512yd gong almost all the time when dialed up 7.5moa. I am still testing this. When I was shooting the gong @ 512yds with the burgers, immediately after I had fired, I could see a jack rabbit run from some brush to in front of the gong . I loaded my next round and aimed directly at the rabbit, shot and it fell. I grabbed my rangefinder and headed up to the rabbit. My range reading was 504yds right through the mid section of the rabbit.

I was very happy ,I thought this was going to be a personal record but I have killed a mag-pie @ 504 about a year ago with my .308 ,it took 2 shots and I was using an XOTIC on 16X. No matter I am very happy with the kill and wanted to tell all of you about it.

Wish you had some kinda picture to go with your story, it would make an excellent contest entry and or testimony.

I have been doing good, Thanks for asking! Between remodeling my house and a new position I accepted at work, I have not been shooting nearly as much as I normally do but I do drop by the Optics Talk and Snipers Hide every couple of days just to read all of the new post and comments. I will try to chime in more often.

Chris it has been a while since I talked to you! You know I am chomping at the bit to try a new variable SS or Xotic, LOL.  By the way the wife Got me a Swarovski rangefinder about 6 month ago and I love it. there is just one problem she didnít order it through SWFA, trust me she knows now that all optics come from you unless I say different!

All I have is a pic of the rifle, I will see if I can get some really nice ones.

Well this is it! I started on it back in November and I am finally to a point I can do some testing.

Specs.

Rem 700 SS with factory 22Ē barrel encased.

IOR 20 moa base.

Versapod with pin adapter bedded in stock forend.

Stock is a B&C Tactical that I reformed with rough grips and finished.

Burris XTR rings.

Scope -SS10X42.

Flip caps, Buttler creek.

I set the trigger at 3lbs for now, installed a oversized bolt handle and bedded the action, leaving the barrel with a generous free float.

Some barrels are encased in carbon fiber or light weight sleeves to reduce vibration and a number of other factors that effect the barrel without a lot of added weight.

This one is similar.
