Hello All, just returned from Afganistan, bought a few new toys and was looking for info on the SS scope. I used alot of scopes in the Army, but there a little out of price range. The SS scope looks to be a top notch scope. Any and all info would be greatly accepted. Thanks again...

Sniper:

Welcome back home, friend!!

Thank you for your service to our Nation, Sir.

The SS has a HUGE fan base here and everywhere else actually. I'm sure they will respond shortly.

I can't comment on it in particular because I don't have one.

That will change shortly, God willing.

Question for you.

Did you ever see the SS deployed on duty weapons in theater?? Just curious.

Maintain OPSEC, of course.

These reviews on this page shoulds keep you busy for awhile.

Again, welcome and thanks!!

Hey Cheaptrick....actually only saw the SS once, but didnt get a chance to shoot the damn thing....But in my opinion, the SS looks like one hell of a scope and think it will be a nice addition to my Remington 700 vs. In the past i've used the weaver v-16, but now I want to go a little more tactical....

Kudos for your service.  Glad you made it back.  I bought one of the early SS 10X42 in 1997 and it served well up till a couple of months ago (see post on SS 10X42 problem) but SWFA stood behind the product and is shipping a new one.  I have no hesitation in recommending the scope.  In fact, I just ordered a second one with side focus.  I have used mine from 100 to 750 meters and repeatability was excellent.  It always returned to zero and was right on the money.  Lens clarity is on a par with the best US glass and not to far off some of the real high dollar euro scopes.  I don't think you will be disappointed.

Randy

Ok, first thing first....thank you for all the thanks....#2 you guys have me convinced....I have three weapons that need scopes, It looks as if i'll be going with the SS with the side focus. Appreciate all the feed back. From what I can see this is one of the best scope sights out here.....And the men and women in the forums??

I'm right behind you Sniper.

I'm getting an SS too for my Remington VSLH .308.

I'm going to go with the rear parallax adjustment instead of the side focus though.

I'll probably regret doing that, but as a left handed shooter, the side focus on most scopes is on the "wrong" side.

Please give us the SITREP as soon as you get your rifles scoped up...OK?

Dang It CT,

You just gave me another thing to think about, I was about to order the 10X42m. Now I have to think about adjusting the paralax out with my shooting hand.

UNLESS they make one for portsiders.   YEA RIGHT  !!!!

Hey there cheaptrick......I'll be sure to do that....I'm curious your Remington VSLH 308, how does it shoot? The reason I ask, is that I have The VS 308....Ishoot a winchester case....federal 210 magnum primer.....44.0 grains Varget and a 168 gr Hornady A-Max and let me tell you it's a tack driver. The last time I was out, I could cover 5 shots with a nickle at 100 yds. I tried to scan it but it was to big to upload here......

Sniper,

For a factory stick with a worked over trigger, glass bedded action, and handloads, she shoots like a dream.

As I have often stated, I have a charmed life with Remingtons.

I was running a US Optics SN-3 on it last year and shot it out to 300 yards at a local range.

I had one 3 shot group that measured a shade under 5/8". That was my best group out that far.

1 ragged hole for a 5 shot group at 100 yds typically. In the 4's, no problem.

I shoot off a Harris UL bipod and use a rear bag.

I like shooting 168gr. Hornaday A-Max's with 45.5gr. Varget powder and Fed. 210  Gold Match primers.

I haven't been as lucky with 175gr. pills though. Still looking for a good recipe.

Yeah, I like an AO or the rear parallax best.

Well cheaptrick, I cant say nothing bad about Remingtons, I liked my VS 308 so much That I went out and picked up the 223 & 22-250 in the VS. Lately i've been getting into semi autos. cant wait to get my scopes and develope loads for them.... You say you like AO, have you ever tried the weaver V-16s?

The side focus SS 10 X is the one to buy. I have a SS20 X and it's too much magnification for most things. I also have Leupolds 10x Mark 4 M3 and their  8.5-25 M1 to compare to and I will say that Leupold has a sharper optic but the Super Sniper is a fine piece of equipment and you will be quite happy with it. I recently purchased a Leupold Mark 4   3-9 PR scope which is now on my 50 cal Encore muzzleloader and it is an awesome scope ( but no mil dot and doesn't have but 56 MOA internal adjustment so not what you want for long range) The SS should have about 100 MOA internal adjustment due to the 30mm tube.  Also note you may want the +30 MOA base if you are taking   .308 out to 1000 + yds which seems likely.   ( If Zero is at 600 you need +23 MOA to get to 1000)
