I am a Newbie, here and i need a little help. I have been doing some research on a good varible scope for about or under 400 bucks.. i have a V Match Bushmaster AR.. i like to shoot around 100-400 yards. I am looking hard at the Sightron S2(http://sightron.com/graphics/sightron/product_SII-4-514x4 2IRMD.jpg) or the Super Sniper 20 (http://www.swfa.com/images/product/medium/SS20X42.jpg). I can get the Sightron locally for about 230.00.. but the catch is, it is a discontinued model, and i dont know how the warranty will apply. I have also took a good look at the Millet TRS scopes . give me your opinions and help.. thanks

Welcome to The OT!!
My friend, the Sightron is a variable, the 20x SS is a fixed power scope. Or did I misunderstand your post?? |

The Super Sniper scope you are considering would be my top choice for your price range. It is built like a tank and has very good optics. It is not variable though, also for the yardage you shoot at I think you would be much happier with the SS10X42mm. The SS20X42mm is way more magnification than you need. I have the SS10X42mm and am very happy with it .

This is a tough call for me, since I like the Sightrons and I am a big fan of the Super Sniper as well.
Either would work fine, except with a Super Sniper I would go with a 10x42 model. 20x42 is a very specialized scope that is not very versatile (like any high magnification fixed scope). Under most conditions you will probably see better through a 10x42 than a 20x42. With Sightron, I am pretty sure it is under the same warranty as any other SIghtron. I do not think I played a whole lot with that particular model, so I can not comment much, but I am very happy with the other Sightrons I have. I think it really boils down to whether you want a variable or a fixed magnification scope. ILya |

Right.
I think you'd be better served getting the 10x rear focus SS for starters. Everybody needs at least one!! |

Thanks for the welcome, and the info.. Well i have a scope( if u want to call it that), it is a NcStar.. And i must say it is the worst scope i have had the experience to deal with, i got three good range visits with it before it crashed! It wont keep a zero and the eye relief is horrible! Well i guess i got what i paid for. I have fired many caliber rifle (Military-Range Control). I have look thru many scopes. Needless to say most of them are WAY out of my price range. Since i left the military i havent kept up with the latest in scopes, only know what i know from what i have read and word of mouth. I enjoy my AR and usually shoot 100-300 yards(usually metal targets). So instead of me choosing. What do u guys RECCOMEND for about 400.00? doesnt matter wether it is varible or fixed.. i like the options of a fixed scope but i like the simplicity of a fixed.
