I know you guys have heard this or seen this many times. However I would still like your feedback?

I am torn between the package deal you guys recomended to many including me or the ACOG.

This is for a RUger SR 556. Would be used for some target shooting say 100 to 400 yards but would be used for hog hunting as well and maybe a few other things.

I think the SS is just more an all around useful optic

I have coyote hunted with the 3-9X42 SS in low light. I find that the mil-dot in the FFP is quite useable under these conditions (need to get up above 4x). The ability to crank it up to 9x comes in handy, too. It resolves better detail when shooting across open areas into the edges of wooded areas. This can make a diffence in connecting should there be a small obstruction in front of the target.

The ACOG has a very good reticle for low light and the optics are quite good. Also, it won't give the magnification of the SS for finer target resolution. I've never hunted with one, though.

Well I guess it's done. I will drive down to SWFA tomorrow to look at the SS 3x9 if it is what you all tell me sure I will come home with one.

Have not gotten to take my SR 556 to the range yet still brand new. So I am sure I pick up a scope tomorrow then I will surly hit the range Saturday or Sunday. I guess if it's not for me I will be there and can try others out.

Not sure if it's worth taking the SR with me or not?

So took the srv556 and the ss3x9 to the range this morning bought the group buy yesterday. Man I am impresed with the scope more so than my Seuss on my .270.

So my first time using a tac scope. I have read a ton on here and it helps. So with the scope on the sr 556 once I got it dialed in at 100 yards which was max range for that place. I then reset turrets to zero which is at 2 does that sound about right?

That means I have used up much of my turret adjustments now. Any advice you guys have?

Yeah, Take it back and get the ACOG.  Na Na
Seriously though. Are you sure about that? I find it hard to believe you are almost out of adjustment at 100yds. What mount did you use?

The mount is th eone that comes in the kit which I understand to be one of the best on the market....bobro

I checked again and it is on 3 so that 3 rounds to have zero at 100 yards.

Just want to make sure that sounds right or not.

I don't get it. What you mean your now on "2" or "3"?
You have your scope zero'd at 100 yards and have no elevation left over?

When you turn a turret if you keep turning then you will see a one then a two then a three. The are markers for full revolutions. Not completely out just saying or asking should I have used up that much just to get zero at 100 yards?

you want to be zero'ed in the middle of the adjustment range, sounds like you are.  What you can do is count the number of clicks you have left up and the number of clicks down and compare/post them for us to see.

You could always count how many "clicks" you have left over, after you've established a 100 yd zero, to see how much "up" you have left over. But, it is where it is.
The SS is typically noted for it's abundance of W/E adjustment.

I always try to find the mechanical zero of the scope before I mount it.

Slow Poke

You got a killer set up! Good luck and good shooting!
I have the Bobro mount on my AR with the 1-4x SS now. It's nice.

Noted.

If considering the 1-4SS: my  Yankee Hills BUIS will not fit under my 1-4 mounted in an American Defense Recon mount.  I like the mount, just need a lower rear BUIS, I guess.
