I recently got a new SS 3-9 from SWFA and was impressed with the reticle change. Also, the fit and finish, while always good, were perfect. Back a couple years ago when I reviewed one vs. a NF 2.5-10X32 the SS 3-9 I got had a little glue or some sort of material where the turret housing met the scope body. It wasn't a functional issue and not that noticeable. I'm only mentioning it now because the new one is simply flawless. As before, the glass is far better than the price would indicate.

Thank you, hope that's also an indication that the new SS 1-6x will be of the same quality.

Do you consider the 3-9x better/as good as the NF 2.5-10x?

I'm sure that will be true of the SS 1-6 if not more so since it is a newer design. I felt the same way about the SS 5-20, although I found it too much magnification on the low end for my needs. I'm mostly a hunter.

I don't think the SS 3-9 is quite as good as the NF. But considering what you have to pay to get a NF 2.5-10X32 it is a much far better deal and comes so darn close in functionality and quality. They both weigh about the same, the SS is just .8" longer, and the glass is as good or better than the NF (although I'll give a little credit to the larger objective). For a small percentage of use cases, you get a little more magnification range with the 2.5-10 and you can get illumination. (In four seasons of use,  I never lit up the reticle when hunting with it so didn't find it necessary). For sure, the NF has been one of the easiest scopes to shoot with. But I find that true of the SS 3-9 as well.

The higher turrets allow the SS to not need zero-stop because turns are indicated. With the NF compact NXS turrets, zero-stop is essential. So I ding the NF for requiring the extra expense. I'd be unlikely to consider another NF in the future. The SS line is coming along well and otherwise I've found the glass and design features in scopes like Premier's LT to be far better. I'm seriously considering Kahles nowadays too...always kinda, sorta wanted one...and now they're putting out some cool stuff.
