I'm considering one of these for my M4/AR. My question concerns eye relief and eye box at 1x. Do I have to get a good cheeck weld like a standard scope or can I use it more like an Aimpoint?

"Red dot to mil dot"

An excellent purchase, indeed.

Well thanks for the replies and for twisting my arm. I've got a nice OT check comming mid July. Guess where it's going?

I really like the donought rticle but the deal on the T reticle package is very tempting. Guess I got a couple weeks to decide......

I've got to stop doing this to myself. I'm sitting here thinking about the SS 1-4 and still wondering if that is the right choice. I have been looking at 3 different options. The SS 1-4, the Aimpoint CompM4, and the Acog TA31H. Unfortunately I can only get one. I would love to get all 3 and two more uppers but, I don't think the wife would understand that thinking. What are the pros and cons of each?

the SS is both a red dot and a scope in one because you can run it on 1X as a true 1X with both eyes open.  I was never able to run my ACOG that way and it was never that fast on target, maybe the smaller compact at 1.5X acogs have that ability but not any I've used.  Really the SS 1-4 has nothing it compares too.  Its that nice.  The reticle is by far the best as is the illumination compared to scopes that cost are much higher.  I'll look for the thread that has the pictures in it for you that shows this.

Check the pictures out here and see how it compares to scopes costing much much more.

The ACOGS are good scopes, but do not compare to the SS 1-4x IMO.  Having the ability to go from 1-4x on demand is awesome.

On 1x the SS eyebox is huge, the FOV is huge.

I am not a fan of redots because you are totally relying on a battery and electronics to make them work.  Plus you are stuck on 1 magnification.

Thanks, SVT. Those pics were great. It also gave me a real good comparison between the 2 reticles of the SS. They both seem to have their strong points and weak points. The doughnut seems like it would be quicker on target at 1x but looks like it could be pretty intrusive at 4x. I think I'll go with the T retice, besides, that package deal really is a steal.

you got that right.  But beware that package deal could end any day now.  I've not seen an end date other than "when we sell out" which could happen any timeWink

I know, the ACOG would require a Dr. Optic on it and that pushes the price close to 2 grand. The Aimpoint with a 3x mag. in Larue mounts about 1500. Looks like the SS is worth a shot. Looks like it wouldn't be too hard to unload if I don't like it.

It might pay you to call into SWFA and talk to them.  Maybe a down payment or something to hold one till then?!?!?
