We just shot the inaugural run of the National Defense Match at Camp Perry. My 14 yo son Colton won first place in the Optics class as well as Juniors. He ended up 5th over all in standing. He has never competed with a rifle before but I gave him 3 days of carbine training and 3 hours of long range shooting just days before the match.I used an AR with 1-4x24 SS optic. Colton shot a SCAR 16 with same optic. We used the QD PEPR mounts and SWFA quick throw levers. 100 yard zero was easy with the reliable repeatable Mil Mil FFP SS. Firing at distances from 7 yards to 500 yards was simple and the clarity was spectacular. We didn't get to use the illuminated reticle but the on/off illuminator knob was easy to function and the brightness levels apply to any day. If you have ever shot at camp perry you know how the wind can be and wind was an issue. We were dialing on wind based on my estimation and the data we got from the Ballistic FTE on my Iphone. We dialed on and shot sub 5 inch groups at 400 yards prone. 1 mil of wind at 400 yards! 14 &1/2 inches of wind on a kids gun that he had little experience with. The SS did it's job because Colton and the SCAR did theirs. Cant wait to get my hands on the new 5 - 20x50 for my new bolt gun build.
I'll be using the SS 1-4 this week at the Rockcastle Pro Am 3 gun Nationals in KY. I look forward to ringing steel without worry! C

Chris,

It is a good little scope, congrats to Colton.

The 5-20 is also a great scope, let us know how it works out for you.
