I just bought a Savage 10FCP in .308 which i will be using for taget only. After reading many forums and lots of internet research i have decided to go with the Super Sniper. My goal was to put a project gun together that could reach out to 1000 yards for around $1000 and this seems like the right combo. My only problem now is what power scope to go with, the 10 16 or 20. Most of my shooting will be 200-600 yards but i want to be able to hit a 1000 yard target if needed. Any help would be great.

The SS 10xHD will get you to 1000+ without much problem.  The 16x and 20x are both good scopes, but the 10xHD has much better glass, upgraded internals, turrets, etc.  You will experience much more mirage with the higher powers.  You can live with it, but generally requires effort that most do not want to exert.  Before you purchase a 16x or 20x fixed, I would suggest you do some research, which includes some range time, with one or both.  The 10xHD will give you all you need for your requirements.  You might also consider the SS3-9.  It has a lower price tag, there is not enough difference between 10x and 9x for most people to notice, and it gives the advantages of being able to go to lower powers in high mirage conditions.
I have the 10xHD on my .50BMG and HIGHLY recommend it...
Welcome to the OT.

Thanks for the reply. I would love to get the 10xHD but that would put my project way over budget and take all the fun out of it. I guess what i should do is just try one, since everyones eyes are different. If i hate it i will exchange it for another power. Hope to have it mounted and to the range within a few weeks so i will let you know what i go with and how it does.

I understand your desire to stay below a certain price.  However, you REALLY should consider the 10xHD.  Believe me, it will NOT hurt your fun factor.  Save a little longer and check the sample list.  I like all the SS scopes, but the HD is in another class, as is the variable.  Choose wisely...

For daylight use the 20 x is a nice scope but at dark it looks a little grey.  In high heat there can be mirage issues.  The 10x is favored by most users.  The HD is much much better but more money.  You would probably like the 20x and the price is a bargain.

On the sample list 20x $229 can't go wrong. Personally with my older eyes i have now bought 4 of them and couldn't be happier, I only shoot 2=300 yards but now I do not need to lug my spotting scope along because I can see where I hit with the 223. If you can't see it you can't hit it.
My advice is go with the sample list and it will leave enough left over to get good rings and bases off the mounts and rings page, try thr Burris XTR base and the SS tactical rings, I'm using that combo on 3 Savage fp's and it works nicely. With this combo use low rings.

I would recomend the ss10x as well.  If you can afford it get the hd if not go with the regular and when you ever get to see a hd10x you can kick yourself then

good luck and happy shooting.

I shoot 16's on my longer range guns.

The ones that I hunt with and shoot the most all have 10's.  They are just easy to work with and work with much faster target acquisition at closer range.

For a high power scope the 20 is a great buy, but it would help to have some experience with high power scopes before you buy one.

With out allot of info I would have to recommend the 10x.

Thanks for all the info. I ordered the 20x. I will check it out before i put it on the gun and if i hate it i will exchange it. hopefully in a couple months i will get the 10xHD. It never hurts to have an extra scope laying around. You know sooner or later you will have another gun to put it on. I will post my opinion of the 20x as soon as it comes in.
