You also might want to look in the spotting scope section under other optics.

Nikon has their 20-60x82 ProStaff Spotting scope with straight or my favorite, angled body. Sure makes it easier for spotting game or at the range plus you don't have to haul a big Tripod with you.
Great ED glass as you requested for excellent clairity and light transmission. Go to Nikonhunting.com and check it out.
This Spotter is well with-in your price parameters too.

The Nikon Pro Staff does not have ED glass according to their website.

The Bushnell 20-60x80 Elite does have ED glass and is an excellent spotting scope and a steal at $720. I have a Pentex 20-60x80EDA and I like it slightly better than the Bushnell. But that was when they were much closer in price. If I had to do it today I would have a Bushnell Elite.

No offense to Bart, but I must agree there are better spotters out there than the prostaff at that price.  It does not have ED glass.  In fact it shows quite a bit of Chromatic Aberration.  It also has a quite narrow field of view, and short, short eye relief.

Look at Pentax or bump up to $1000 for the Zen Ray ED2 spotter.

You are correct, my mistake somehow. The ProStaff Spotter does not have the ED glass. Thank you for correcting my error. Also, Thank you for doing it in a polite way Sparky and Bulls. YOu would be amazed how many folks swoop in for the kill if you make an error. I don't know what I was reading to make that mistake but again, Thank you for pointing out  my mistake.
I have used the ProStaff at the range many times and I have not had any issues of not being able to see my paper targets at 100-200 yards or watching steel impacted at 600 yards.
