I've read everything I can and found great information referencing my spotting scope choices from all you out there.  I rarely have someone spotting for me so for my spotting scope choices it gets down to seeing bullet holes on the paper. My spotter will only be used for the range so "big"  is not a concern. My question comes down to this, the Bushnell Elite 20x60x80 sounds like it will get the job done and is really what I want to pay. But I could also go up $300 and get the Nikon Fieldscope 25x75x82. Given the same atmospheric conditions and distances, how much difference would there be between the two seeing actual bullet holes on paper? And since I've never looked through a good spotting scope, what's the maximun distance under good conditions I could see .308 bullet holes with the two spotters in question? Thanks for all the great feedback, and most of all to the guy that said, "You can spend more money on your spotter or spend less and start walking downrange!"  I bought the $89 dollar Barska and have spent more time than I want walking down range.

I went with the Bushnell 20-60X80 ED. Mostly because of lucznik's review and opinion of it;  and all the other posts. I was not disappointed. First day at the range, 223 and 308 bullet holes at 400 yards were no problem on white targets. When the mirage picked up, the 223 was tough but 308 was still easy to see. (even with mirage I could still see 223 on shoot/sync targets at 400) The view is so crisp and clear, I wish I'd have made the move to a better spotter sooner. For 629+ shipping, I think it was well worth it. Anybody want a 20-60X60 Barska for cheap? LOL
