I was just recently involved in a purchase of the items below a leica spotter 77mm and eyepiece 20x60. I must say this is the most amazing setup for a spotter I have seen. I had a chance to get it out and mess around with it yesterday. The setup was very easy and the function of the spotter and eyepiece was simple and easy. I was looking at pine trees at 600 yards (ranged) in the 20 setting and they were crisp clear and very bright. I then moved out to 1100 yards on the 60 power and was looking at mail boxes and pine trees. I must say being able to count pine needless at 1100 yards is amazing.I couldn't belive how clear the image was. I would highly recommend this to anyone. For the image clarity I must say this setup is a steal for the price.

Thanks CF and CFII for adding in this buy and recommendations on this spotter for the needs at hand.

Brandon,

I have the APO angled eyepiece version of the same scope, along with the 20-60X zoom, 20X WW fixed, and 32X WW fixed eyepieces.  I agree with your assessment.  I haven't been able to compare it head to head with any of the other Alpha class spotters, so I don't know how it stacks up to the likes of the Swarovski ATS HD, Zeiss Diascope FL, Kowa Prominar, etc., but it sure is nice.  I've heard conflicting reviews on which is the best scope among those, but it seemed that the Zeiss and Swaro were usually rated a tad higher than the Leica optically.  I was originally looking at buying a Zeiss Diascope 85 that was on the Sample List, but it sold before I had a chance to snatch it up.  Still, I got a great deal on my Leica Televid 77 APO off the Sample List.  One thing is for certain -- I definitely prefer the dual ratio focusing knobs as used on the Zeiss and Leica vs the single mid-body focus ring.  It's much easier to get a tack sharp focus without image shake at high magnification with the easy to turn coarse and fine focus knobs.

I  don't think I have every seen any optics from Leica or Zeiss that were not top in their class. The first thing I bought of Leica was way back, a 3 F range finder camera and it still works fine. Its a matter of buy it once and keep it forever but you have to get over the sticker shock and when you figure how long you will use it and be satisfied with your purchase they don't look near as expensive as buying twice.

I think that's good advice, Jim.  Once you get over the initial sticker shock, you seldom regret buying quality equipment.
