I am looking for a spotter for F-class shooting. I am just starting out so I don't really know which direction to go---other than I can't afford a $2000 spotter......or really even a 1000 one!! My budget is probably around 700....at least I already have a solid bogen tripod.
anyone have any recomendations???

$700 and under....
Assuming new....
Celestron F-ED 80 or 100 mm
Pentax 65 ED
Nikon 50 ED
Second hand/demo....
Nikon Fieldscope III 65 ED
Pentax 80 ED
If you can stretch your budget up to around $850 then the Theron Mag82 would be a good choice and it comes with a 25-75x zoom that is excellent.

Since F-class is uaually shot on ranges with target pits, there will be someone to mark your target with disk. So you only need glass good enough to see the disk on your target.
Now I know a decent 20x50 spotter is good enough for this out to 600yds. Now beyond that range I can't say for sure, but your not trying to see bullit holes at 1,000yds, just the marking disk. You don't have to have a high dollar spotter to participate.
Here are a couple of spotters that may serve your needs. http://swfa.com/Burris-20-60x80-Landmark-Spotter-P3642.aspx
and
I would recommend the Vortex myself.

Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

Ah, that explains F-class a bit better.
That was the one variable I was unsure of in my previous post. If that is the case then I certainly will defer to those with more knowledge of the specific requirements of the applications.

I agree the Viper HD 80mm spotter would be a great match for F-class. A very good spotter backed up by the best warranty in the business.
