My ss 20x42 showed up last nite and i got it mounted this morning. Being a early morning kind of person i was off to the range at 5 am to see what it would do. I wasn't sure if i could start sighting it in on the 25yd range like i always do, however it worked out pretty well and three shots later i was out to the 100yd line to try it.

I mounted it on a savage/krieger tactical in .260 remington that will do 3-5 shot, one (ragged) hole groups at 100-200yds on a bipod when i do my part, (sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't).

Three shots at 100 and it was dead on. I was able to make two three shot groups that were holes in holes, and yes i did a couple of flyers as well.

There isn't anything i can add to this short scope test that hasn't been said before, it just does what it is supposed to do and does it well at a fair price. If you had thought about a 20x42 but put it off because you thought it might be too powerfull, well it might be a bit much at 25yds, but is perfect from 50yds on. 400yds is as far as i can go on this range and you can see your hits on the plates at that distance with no problem.

The only problem i have with this scope is that i simply am not a mil-dot fan, yep used them for years just like hash marks better. I will probably send this scope to someone and have the retical changed over to something like the one in the 5-20x50hd. If you know of a custom retical maker please post a name and number for me, for that matter, Chris does swfa do this type of work? Thanks guys, blue.

After looking around a bit for custom reticle makers, i see that some reticles can't be changed. Can someone tell me if the ss 20x42 reticle can be changed to something else.? blue

To my admittedly limited knowledge, there are no options for swapping reticles on that scope.

Glad you like the scope.

Mil dot might grow on you.

Or you can sell that scope, spend 3X more and get something with the same glass, probably not as good mechanicals, and a hash reticle.

If you liked the 20x you will love the 6x.

If it can't be changed, i'm pretty sure i'll learn to live with it. It is a great scope for the money and Rancid coolaid you are right if i got something that cost more it would probably have a feature not as good as this scope. I am used to mildots and with all moa on this scope probably won't find a need to use the dots anyway.

I guess the next time i take it off the rifle i'll do the three screw check if i haven't found out by then. Urimaginaryfrnd your right as well, i'm sure i will like the 6 and the 10 and the 16 and since theres a new savage light weight hunter coming, (in .260rem) i will have to decide which of the three it gets.  Thanks for the help guys, blue.

Wally Siebert

Cecil Tucker

Bill Ackerman

All 3 of these guys  change reticles, but I'm not sure if they work on SS scopes.

Google their names for info/phone #'s.
