Ok Have a Savage 114 American Classic in 270wsm. I just bought a bushy 4200 3x9x40. What i need now is a solid mount and ring set up. Any suggestions? What about Badger rail and rings?

Any of the 'name brand' bases should do you just fine. Personally, for the money I like Burris rings and bases.

If you aren't sure about fit (ring placement) I would suggest going with a slightly narrower ring to give yourself more 'wiggle room'. That is... avoid the Tactical style rings and go with Z rings as they are narrower. They are steel so they are plenty strong enough to get you through your hunt.

That is my two cents...

Wow! What a great site. Normally i would have just bought a scope and rings without any research. Mounted them and probably torqued the hell out of something broken something and become totally frustrated.

Anyway i decided on the Talley one piece low mount. Talley was a pleasure to deal with. My scope and mount should be here by Monday. I'll post pic's after it's complete.

I've read many older posts about installing the mount and scope. It seems Talley recommends 25" for the mount and 15" for the cap's. There are different opinions in using locktite. I think i will put a layer of tw-25b ot xf7 under the mount then locktite. I will also locktite the mount screw's but no the cap screw's. Can anyone see recommended anything else?

That's how I do it.

NO Loc Tite on the cap screws.

YES to Loc Tite on base screws.

Should be a great set up.

Shoot 'em up!!

Then post pics and AAR.......

One final question. Do Talley aluminum one piece rings usually need to be lapped? Is it recommended to lap aluminum rings?
?
