Having trouble finding a 6-9X40, 8" long max. for my SKS. Have a 4X28 now but want a better scope, any suggestions?

Some rifles just arent ment to have a scope the SKS is one of them.
You are trying to make it be something it just isnt. Buy a bolt action and put a scope on it. Leave the SKS for the up close and personal out to about 200 yds 300 at the most and it will be at its best. The less crap you hang on it the better. Want to hang lots of toys on something buy a Rock River gun. Edited by Urimaginaryfrnd |

I had the same problem with 3 sks's for me and my sons. I could not find any compacts that were suitable other than Burris that is too expensive to justify putting on an SKS since you can't really scope an SKS like other rifles. I got a simple shell deflector from a website called cheaper than dirt (google it for link). and went with a Bushnell 4-16X40 with the lighted red and green reticles. That way it will be good to about 200 yards in low light. What you lack in accuracy you can make up with rapid fire. If I need longer shots I will go with my Rem 700P .308. with SS16X. Also, on the SKS with a standard scope the ejected shell will hit the scope if you don't use a deflector. I used to think the SKS was a clever design but find too many problems now. I now think of it as a cool looking novelty but for anything serious would use my 700P. I hope to eventually get them Rem 700P's and move the Bushnell to this gun and use the SKS for close up iron sighted shots.

I have a yugo 59/66 and it is the best $150 bucks I have ever spent. good design, rugged, but best of all reliable.
Its not a sniper or long range rifle, if you want a scope on it surplusrifle.com has a great article on drilling the receiver to mount one, the cover mounts of any kind are garbage. all that being said, the gun is only good for 150-200 yards, anything past that is getting pretty darn ambitious considering 7.62x39 has ALOT of drop. All I really have to say is that if you need a scope to hit a $150 yd target with an sks then you either need more practice or a .223 since recoil must be too much for ya all joking aside they are great guns but they have their place and its not at the bench shooters competition. |

Thanks for the help. I found one but it is expensive. I've used this present 4X28 for years and with the right fmj loads, custom of course, can hit a target at 200 yd with a consistant hand sized pattern. Never had a cartridge hit the scope yet. You have to keep the barrel clean and there is no problem. If you try to use a 1" ringed scope lpnger then 8" you might have problems. Everyone likes to see what the limit of their rifles are. For my serious shooting I have a 1960's (late) remington M40 with modified stock and a 3-9x40 scope. Good for constant targeting of over 800yds.

a toast to the gun that saved american shooting sports--- even if it is furin---the mount is the main problem -- it is almost impossible to get a secure hold on what amounts to be a dust cover. Sks work very well with a scout scope set up, something like a 2x pistol scope, and I think several makers have good forward mts. Ultmak, etc. the sks duplicates at leasst and was copied from (in theory) the falling bolt action of the FN-LAR, and has a tappet rod instead of direct gas impingement-- something only now being incorporated in the m-16 design hope they catch up.
