I was in a gun store the other day and overheard the ultimate explanation of ballistic coefficient.  A man was at the counter and asked "..... Ballistic coefficient - What's that?".  The person behind the counter offered the following - "That's like in Nascar when they change the body of the car.  You know, they make it more streamlined.  It allows them to get more horsepower out of the same engine.  That way, they can go faster and the car is still legal."    Whistling

Actually it is worse... streamlining would allow better performance for the same horsepower, but would have no impact on the horsepower produced by the engine.

Kickboxer,

Yep - I had to bite my tongue when got to the part about increasing HP.  Up until that point I was thinking that he might be making a pretty good analogy.

( that must be the store where you walk in and say to the feller behind the counter...." Show me that Winchester Model 70 ..."  and he turns around and says " This one? " with his hand on an Ithaca shotgun. )     Bucky

Hey Ed,

I was riding with a teenaged kid to go and help him look for a deer that he had shot.  I noticed that he had a new rifle and remarked that I noticed that he had a new Remington.  He replied that it was in fact a Winchester.  I told him that it looked more like a Remmy to me, but he told me nope - his dad told him that he was getting a 270 Winchester when he bought it.  I asked how it shot.  He said that it shot really good - it had hit the bullseye on the target that he had shot @ 100 yds.  So I asked what kind of group did he get.  He asked what I meant and I told him that I was asking how close together his sight in shots were.  His reply was that he had only shot the gun one time.  Well, his second shot must not have come close to a bullseye because there was no deer nor signs that a deer had been shot to be found.Whistling

Maybe the guy in the store just had a brain fart. If you answered as many (stupid) questions as he did in a day, you would be bound to get one screwed up sooner or later.

In a California classroom , they were discussing the qualifications to be president of the
United States
. It was pretty simple.

The candidate must be a natural born citizen of at least 35 years
of age.

However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair was
the requirement to be a natural born citizen. In short, her opinion was this requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president.

KC and the class were just taking it in and letting her rant, but everyone's jaw hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating ....

"What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by c-section".

AND SOMEDAY SHE'LL VOTE!

Beltfed,

It wasn't a brain fart.  This guy works at a local store and he don't fire on all cylinders.

When Legacy introduced the Howas with the laminate stocks, I asked him if they planned to get any in(they stock Howas and usually have at least four or five on their shelves at a time).  He told me that there wasn't such a thing being made.  I told him that they had only been out for about a year at that time.  He got out his catalog and showed me that there was no such thing in it.  His catalog was only four years old.  I tried to politely tell him that the catalog was too old to have them in it.  I got the impression that he thought that I was dense in the head.

Another time I needed some primers and checked to see what they had.  There was a 1k pack of CCI 200 primers in the shelf, but it was priced with a sticker that had $125.00 on it.  He also had some 100 primer packs in the shelf that were priced at $3.50.  I respectfully told him that I thought someone had mispriced the 1k pack.  He pulled out his catalog and showed me that he had indeed priced them correctly.  The page plainly showed that a case of primers should be priced at $125.00.  I tried to no avail to explain to him that a case came with five of the sleeves in it.  I asked him how come you could buy 10 - 100 primer packs for $35.00 which equated to the same amount of primers.  He told me that he didn't know why, but that they sold more of the 100 primer packs so it must be some kind of volume discount.  He doesn't own the place, so I guess maybe he doesn't see the invoices.

He told a friend of mine that he wouldn't personally own another Remington because all of Remington's rifles were now being imported.  He knew that it was true because he read in an article where their rifles were being imported from the Czech Republic.

The last time that I tried to shop locally with him, I asked him about the new(at that time) Savage 10ML muzzleloaders.  He told me that Savage had never made a muzzleloader and that there was definitely not a muzzleloader that used smokeless powder.

I haven't tried to do any business there anymore.  It's just too painful.Head Banger
